Heck of a trying day for a dad.

kyletx1911, Even though you were on their property you were there legally ( I am assuming) and anyone has the right to defend themselves against attack. I am not saying shoot it for growling at you, but if jumped, I would have killed it in your situation.

yes sir i pump gas at peoples houses all time they call i go now i will ask if they
have dogs if they do i ask them to put them up if not they get no gas.

Kyletx1911 I would say that would be pretty strong motivation to put the ole pups up for the day. The forcast for the beginning of this week is lows around 1 to 5 degress with highs in the lower to mid 20's. I try and keep my propane guy happy so he keeps me warm and in hot water. We have run out of propane before and that was a crappy night or two with 4 kids in the house.

JB, I am very sorry to hear about your situation and I can definitely relate to it (I had to shoot a neighbor's Pit Bull that was overly aggressive). It really sucks how they are making you look like the one at fault considering the breed (if i read Rottweiler correctly) has a history of being aggressive at times. Mostly just part of being a good guard dog, but it can lead to instances like this.

All you need to know, and I'm sure you do, is that you did what you had to do to protect your son and yourself. And anyone bad talking you obviously would put an aggressive dog's life before their own family and, IMO they might as well use the muzzle that these dogs should have had.

Sorry if that seems a little harsh, but when people attack someone else's actions, especially in this instance, I get a little defensive about what our society is coming to...

Again, as far as I'm concerned, you handled this as good as anyone. And considering you only had one shot, I am very impressed.

I think you showed a lot of restraint not shooting the second, to be honest.

I second this. And you showed great restraint shooting a warning shot first. I might've just shot em both if I thought I was in any sort of danger.
Glad that everybody is allright, hopefully the season gets better from here on out.

stay off facebook. That's my solution.

No problem there I can't stand it. My wife however is on facebook as much as I am on THR. At least here we talk about important things like knives, firearms and hunting. The last time I was on facebook someone was talking about the belly ache they got from taco bell. As interesting as that is:scrutiny:

JBK, Congrats to your son for his buck. Congrats to you for taking time to take your kids hunting and teaching them right from wrong. Only thing I would have done was shot the other dog, end of story. I have no problem shooting a dog that is aggressive to me or my family. Hopefully this won't end up getting out of hand, you never know some people look at things way different. Merry Christmas to ya'll!!
