I got word this morning that my sister in law's apartment burned down when she was at work. She is a fellow sportsman (sportswoman?), gun owner and 2A advocate. When the FD let people back into the building, she is facing a total loss. This includes her guns, ammo and accessories. Her safe turned out not to be as fire proof or water proof as it claimed.

With the help of family, friends, the Red Cross and her church, she has a place to live, food to eat and clothes on her back.

My wife and I are putting together a relief effort to help all the displaced persons, but I am asking fellow High Roaders for a favor. I'd like to raise money to buy her a new rifle.

PM me if you have any questions.

Mods, if this isn't appropriate, please delete this topic with my apologies.

Fire proof safes are not very fireproof in a real fire. Stuff may last an hour, but that's about it. Safes fall though burnt out floors and end up in the lower floor or upper floors cave onto them and all the hot coals and burning debris get too hot and for too long.

I feel for your sister in law, but I think she should file an insurance claim. That's why you buy insurance.

Might be a headache for you, but if we could get everyone to ante up $1.45 . .45 postage and a buck in an envelope you could get a very nice one.

If you go that route, I'm game.

My home owners insurance covers firearms. It is just a matter of the limits that are covered. I have also had renters insurance in the past.

I reinstated my Paypal account and added $50 from my own "new gun fund" to get her started. Donations will be accepted there. If anyone wants to send cash, personal check or money order, those will be accepted as well.

PM for Paypal e-mail/ where to send money.

I appreciate it, and I'm sure she will be thrilled.
