Help a fellow gun owner - total loss due to fire

I got word this morning that my sister in law's apartment burned down when she was at work. She is a fellow sportsman (sportswoman?), gun owner and 2A advocate. When the FD let people back into the building, she is facing a total loss. This includes her guns, ammo and accessories. Her safe turned out not to be as fire proof or water proof as it claimed.

With the help of family, friends, the Red Cross and her church, she has a place to live, food to eat and clothes on her back.

My wife and I are putting together a relief effort to help all the displaced persons, but I am asking fellow High Roaders for a favor. I'd like to raise money to buy her a new rifle.

Fire proof safes are not very fireproof in a real fire. Stuff may last an hour, but that's about it. Safes fall though burnt out floors and end up in the lower floor or upper floors cave onto them and all the hot coals and burning debris get too hot and for too long.

I feel for your sister in law, but I think she should file an insurance claim. That's why you buy insurance.

Most insurance wont cover firearms and if they do, its a form of registration.

My home owners insurance covers firearms. It is just a matter of the limits that are covered. I have also had renters insurance in the past.

Here is the news article. The roof that caved in just happened to be my sister in laws apartment. The fire started in the apartment directly across the hall. That one and hers suffered the most damage, much of it water damage.

I don't know if she had insurance or not. I'm hoping she did.
