I'm planning to sell a pistol I never shoot. I am going to roll the funds back into a new gun purchase.

I don't hunt.

I occasionally carry my P226 Combat owb but it is rarity, don't feel the need to carry where I live.

I don't compete but I do like to keep my shooting dynamic. I'm not glued to a bench, do shooting drills, etc.

I'm basically a range rat that likes to put rifle and handgun rounds downrange. Around 7000 this year.

I don't need another gun but I want one.

Probably will be last purchase for the next year.

Use: The range.

My collection, not including gun I'm selling: P220 Combat, P220 Elite, P226 Combat, P226 Elite, S&W M&P 15T, Remington 700P .308.

What I'm thinking about adding: first, no new calibers, I reload for all of the above.

1.Dan Wesson SS Valor-owned two 1911's and I sold both, want to try and ignite the 1911 love again.

2. Sig 556-now that the price has dropped. One .223 semi just seems inadequate.

3. AK-47-Another classic, fun, range/HD gun

4. Browning High Power-I like .45 more than 9 but it's a classic

5. Glock 19-The only poly I'd consider. Owned many plastics, loved none, but I feel like I should try owning one because of it's significance.

Which of the above would you pick to add to the my collection.:scrutiny:

Buy what "YOU" want. That way you do not cuss us for making a choice that "YOU" did not make. Go to a range where you can rent different guns. Tell the range guy you want to shoot a couple guns and will buy the one you like best. That is hoe I ended up wit hmy XD 45.

Buy what "YOU" want.

That's the problem, I want them all!

In reality I'm going to choose one and just wanted some friendly advice. I can be indecisive to say the least.

As I mentioned, it's probably the last gun for awhile, likely a year.

Well you did say no new calibers so that would sort of rule out an AK-47. But if I were you I wouldn't completely rule it out because it is a fun gun for the range. So I voted for the Browning Hi-Power as it's a classic design in its own right. Besides you need a little variety (something other than a SIG) in your pistol collection.

Tough choice between the 1911 and the HP, but I think you should go with the DW. Every man needs at least one 1911!

Skip the Dan Wesson...you could buy your Glock, AK, and BHP for that much money...that would be my vote :)

And we aren't helping matters. It looks pretty tied up except for the Sig.

I was torn between the DW and the BHP. I voted for the Dan Wesson, though that particular 1911 doesn't call my name. Very sweet, but not what I would buy in the 2K range. I like the V-BOB better since I ccw everywhere I can. I don't feel I need to, either...but bad stuff happens in good places sometimes.

OK-
I tipped the balance to a slim lead for the BHP. I love all my Browning-design pistols, but the HP is the one I'd never sell.

True, the AK is a new caliber....duh! Still, it's cheap to feed.

I do think everyone needs a 1911 and a BHP.

The DW Valor in SS can be had for $1450 so I could get a nice AK + ammo and a Glock for that price.

Leaning toward the Valor right now just because I prefer .45's.

True!

I had this reaffirmed unfortunately not too long ago. A close friend was the victim of a home invasion attempt. The guy had snooped around and got the layout of the place and actually been inside the home, as in broke in, left and didn't steal anything. He obviously learned the couple's schedules as he attempted to break in when she was coming home and he was still at work. A neighbor happened to pull in and spook him. Who knows what would have happened, but t sounds to me like the target was obvious. My friend was obviously concerned and has since begun pursuing classes and a cc permit. His reasoning was that all of his weapons in his safe wouldn't have helped him or his wife. I agreed.

Back to your quandary...maybe you should pick up a cheap BHP and a Rock Island Armory 1911. You could get both for under a grand. Then modify each to your liking. Once you figure out what you want, buy a Dan Wesson with the modifications you actually desire when shooting. The first mid level 1911 I bought was one that I thought I would love. After several hundred rounds, my tastes had changed. It had features I loved and others that just "took up space."

No collection is complete without a 1911 in.45 ACP

I have owned two. A Springfield TRP that I sold because I was bothered much more than I thought I would be by the 'Tactical' engraving on the frame, the 'TRP' on the slide, and the overall billboard effect.

I also owned a SA MC Operator I didn't really love and sold to a good friend.

Yes, I am impulsive and fickle. Hence the attempt to think this through.

Now, not having felt the love so many express for the 1911 platform I want to try again. This tme with an elegant, simple, well made 1911. The DW is the beauty that might make me fall in love with the 1911.

But maybe the BHP deserves a shot......

Still want that DW though. She's calling to me.......

Maybe I should invest the money on psychiatric help.

If I were you....... I'd hold off on the next gun purchase and get into reloading. That being said, I voted for ak-47. It's a great gun and I think everyone should own one. Or an SKS at the minimum. My second choice would be a Saiga 12. You should add it to your list

Guys, I already reload! Read the OP!

Only one I don't reload for right now is the AK because ammo is relatively cheap. I don't want to gear up for another caliber but I could.

It wouldn't be "an expensive gun with gun show reloads" it would be an expensive gun with thousands of my sweet handloads.

Prion;

I voted the SIG 556. It seems to me to be the best thought-out of the new batch of the AR platform guns. Pity I'll probably never see it in a lefty though.

However, I was intrigued by your comment that you'd never found a plastic gun you could love & considered getting the glock for that reason. Would you consider getting aquainted with an H&K USPc? I got mine back when it was one of the only two choices from left-hand-friendly manufacturers. That's been considerably over a decade ago now. It's been carried well into the high 90th percentile of days since then with no problems. I have no plans to replace it either. You may not like it, but I'd say you're missing a bet if you don't at least give it a chance.

H&K USPc?

I owned two full-sized USP's in 9 and .45. I liked them for awhile but then found I never wanted to take them out.

I sold them but I must say they are reliable and accurate. Just not a good fit for me.

I'm thinking I'm going to go with the Valor.

AK's don't shoot tight groups. The 5.56 is not destructive enough with most standard ammo. 9mm is for the recoil-sensitive, women or children. I recently got a Para .45 GI Expert for under $500 that regularly makes beer cans jump @ 50 yds with Blazer ball ammo.

I can't really even see that far. I own 3 Glocks and never saw a need for a 1911, until I made beer cans jump @ 50 yds. With an inexpensive gun. And the Dan Wesson Valor will be more accurate than my Para .45. Get the Wesson.
