at the time, early 80's, the knock on silvertips was that the jacket material/plating was clogging the gas port/cylinder...same problem with the lead or dirty powders.

i'm currently feeding my p7 the ranger SXT 127gr +p JHP, but my default 9mm round has always been the federal 9BP 115gr JHP

I've owned P7's since the early "80's and for years used Silvertips. Never had a problem even when shooting 300+ rounds at a time. though I'm fairly compulsive about cleaning after every range session. The only problem I did encounter with Silvertips was bullet setback on several occasions.

I once clogged up a PSP with "plated" bullets. I was stripping off the copper plating and it started to hang up. Nothing a good smack on the back of the slide could not fix. Just break it down (use a wooden hammer if necessary) and clean out the piston and cylinder. Should be good as new and start using cleaner ammo.
