Help on installing roll pins

Help me please, had to install new roll pin on ejector on my BHP. Can just get it started and using a roll pin punch can only get it in a short way and then it expands and jambs. Would a 'roll pin holder punch' be the answer, or some magical smithing solution. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. :banghead:

Pretty sure this isn't the right way, but once I get them started I go to a regular flat punch so they can compress down as I drive them in.

I use the roll-pin punches for removal mostly.

That and I do notice I sometimes have to tap harder against the resistance than I really want to.

I gave in years ago and bought the starter punches and they make installation much easier -- but your problem sounds more like misalignment of the parts being held, rather than a problem with the pin or punch.
