Got this from a friend, it will be my first progressive press, plan to set it up for 9mm, it is currently set up for .44, all he knows is it's a Lee press, any information would be great KIMG0002.JPG KIMG0001.JPG

You can get any parts off Lee website.
You’ll need a set of Lee dies and possibly a different case feeder. Also some conversionparts for small primers.

It’s a descent press if you don’t ask it to work too hard.

I would add that pulling the handle might be working it too hard... I have had one sitting in a box for 25-30 years just to remind myself to never buy another Lee press. Mine despite my best efforts would not reliably feed primers correctly and constantly dumped inaccurate powder charges.
Someday many years from now when I have the time and am looking for something to frustrate me, I will set it up again, just to waste some components and torture myself.
IMHO...their most redeeming feature is the ability to serve as a bad example.

I've seen a lot of nice rounds come out of the Lee 1000. One constant I've always heard was to set it up properly for one caliber and never change calibers...the good thing is that the are inexpensive enough to have several set up.

If you want to change it from .44 to 9mm, you're going to need a lot of parts. Basically the only part you'll be able to reuse will be the chassis, the handle, half the case feeder and half the powder measure...unless you have additional parts not pictured

Welcome to Pro 1000 owner's club. Go over the following information and post any questions you may have.

Here's a summary of parts needed to change caliber to 9mm:
  • 9mm dies
  • #19 shell plate
  • Small primer feed attachment
  • Small case feeder/case slider
  • Pro Auto Disk powder measure
In addition, I recommend the following:
  • Action rod - This hex rod goes through the center of shell plate and if it is rusty, you will need to replace it (Picture shows rusty rod and I would replace it)
  • Hex ratchet - This is a consumable item and if worn, needs to be replaced (I highly recommend replacement)
  • Case collator - While not necessary, it is highly recommended to quickly fill the tubes

To prepare and get your Pro 1000 operating smoothly, you need to do the following:

FYI, link to Lee Precision Pro 1000 videos - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPNab4HdXiWmPCdumw1u7nA/search?query=Pro+1000
  • Remove turret with dies
  • Remove shell plate carrier

  • Spray the entire press with WD40 and let soak. Scrub and remove surface rust and dry with paper towel
  • Remove action rod and replace hex ratchet

  • Remove shell plate and remove large primer attachment/priming rod (Clean all surfaces as necessary)
  • Install small priming rod/small primer attachment and #19 shell plate (Make sure you install the case sensor clip properly)

Case sensor clip installation

  • Install shell plate carrier - NOTE: Make sure to rotate shell plate carrier slightly clock-wise to ensure the primer attachment pin is inside one of grooves in the frame rod (to better agitate primer tray to fill the attachment ramp full of primers)

  • Adjust shell plate zero/index timing (NOTE: Lube action rod with a drop of oil on finger and cycle ram lever until press cycles smoothly)

  • Install turret
  • Install resizing die

  • Install powder through expanding die

  • Install bullet seat/crimp die (Video uses LoadMaster press but die installation is same)

  • Install Pro Auto Disk - NOTE: Be sure to lubricate hopper wiper surface with graphite powder or shaved No 2 pencil powder rubbed on paper (For smooth disk sliding without binding). Be sure to properly install spring at the bottom of chain (Which ensures disk return fully under the hopper for consistent filling of powder charge).

Since this is your first progressive press, get yourself familiar cycling one case through the stations before using all 3 stations (Lee recommends 100 cases but you may get the hang of Pro 1000 operations before that). We can address installing case feeder, slider and Z-bar later.

Check out the following links to better familiarize yourself with Pro 1000 and post any questions you may have.

You are very welcome. Glad to help fellow THR members.

I've seen a lot of nice rounds come out of the Lee 1000.
I essentially load all my test rounds for THR threads on Pro 1000 (Rest are loaded on C-H single stage and Dillon 650) and when properly lubed and adjusted, Pro 1000 is capable of very consistent finished dimensions. With RMR FMJ RN/FP bullets, .003" OAL variance using mixed range brass and .001" OAL variance using pre-resized brass - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...progressive-press.833604/page-2#post-10779806

The small OAL variance results from ram mounted offset under station #1 where resizing takes place. Unlike other progressive press shell plate that could tilt under heavy resizing effort, Pro 1000's free floating shell plate movement is limited by full contact with top of shell plate carrier, even under heavy resizing effort - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...progressive-press.833604/page-2#post-10779966

And my Pro Auto Disk is capable of metering most small granule powders with .1 gr weight variance and meter Sport Pistol with less than .05 gr variance (Less than my C-H 502 micrometer powder measure which meters Sport Pistol with .08 gr variance) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/c-h-502-micrometer-powder-measure-10-drops.834894/

For 2018, Lee improved the Pro 1000 with solid flat steel base, hole through shell plate indexing, spent primer through ram collection, etc. to make this 3 station progressive press a viable contender as the lowest price progress press with lowest cost caliber change - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ussion-no-bashing.835426/page-8#post-10957798

1st off bds you deserve an award for that post. It was most excellent!

Stew0576 I have that press also and load 380 Auto, 9mm and 45ACP on it. In my opinion it is the simplest designed progressive press there is with really only one adjustment that ever really needs to be made besides setting the dies. That adjustment is a single screw under the shell plate carrier and is very simple to do.

I would suggest before you start with it to take it apart and thoroughly clean and lube it. Take the time to do the shell plate carrier also as it will serve you well to see and understand how it all works together. At that time you can also put in the new plastic hex ratchet. I use white lithium grease on my press.

My number one recommendation with this press is that it be mounted to a bench that will not move. You do not want this press wiggling around. Especially if you are going to be priming on this press. I say that because if you look you will find that the primer sits atop a flat pin and is not contained in a cup like most are. So therefore any wiggle can cause the primer to move out of position and you will have problems.

Lastly I have a couple parts saved on ebay auctions that you may be interested in for this press, I will PM that info to you.

I can help, the red part with the loose bolts in it goes down, drill holes and bolt it to the bench. No really, the videos that have been referenced will be of utmost help. If a problem pops up call Lee.
