Today was the first day I took out my Taurus to shoot. It did not go well. I shot about 85 rounds and got sick of it. 30 or 35 rounds failed to feed and failed to fire. Some of this could have been user error but some was also gun failure. We figured out that some of the user error was that I was anticipating recoil because I am use to firing Sig P229 and I was limp wristing. The slide would not go fully forward when feeding the next round. Even after I made the adjustments I would notice that the slide wasnt all the way forward and I had to hit the back of the gun to get it to go. We were thinking that it just might need to work its way in.

When we got home to clean the gun we locked the slide back pulled out the pin and went to remove the slide and it locked. We pulled the trigger and the trigger locked in place and the slide locked. It will not move in any direction. As of right now we are calling Taurus tomorrow to see about sending it back. I am looking for some help if anyone has had the same problems.

We did clean the gun thouroughly before going to the range. We made sure to get out all the packing grease and it was cleaned and oiled last night. The slide was moving freely.

It's a crapshoot

Taurus seems to be hit or miss, quality-wise. Those who get good ones are pleased. The rest tell endless tales like yours. The interwebs are full of Taurus sorrows. :(

Taurus will fix it and it will be good thereafter.

Were it mine, I'd have it apart and learn why it's doing that. OH, you said you can't get it apart. Hmm, I had one. Took it to the dealer/gunsmith who pried out a swollen aluminum case while I watched. Took it home. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the tip. We are planning on calling them for the warranty. But it was completely empty and we werent using aluminum. It didnt sieze up until we went to clean it.

All the Taurus bashing is complete bs. I own alot of Taurus and they are 100% reliable. If it were another make almost all replies would be send it back, every maker has a bad one every now and then. If you pay attention long enough you read about alot more malfunctions from other makes. Also, Taurus customer service is easy to deal with and they make things right no questions asked. Cant say the same for all. Both of my carry pieces are Taurus, and they are not my only options.

IMHO it isn't BS, it's an opinion. Just like your defense of Taurus, an opinion. Just because your Taurus guns have served you well doesn't mean a whole lot........except they have worked for you.

It's kinda like saying smoking isn't bad for your health. The numbers show it's bad for you, but you could smoke your whole life and never have a problem..........or you might not be that lucky. This is how I view Taurus - don't start the nasty habit.

I own 4 Taurus weapons. The newest, a 941 SS .22 Mag revolver is/was a POS. I bought it NEW and it would key hole shots and you had a bitch of a time extracting the empthy brass (tool marks in the chambers).
I sent it back and 5 weeks later it came home. The key holing was fixed but the chambers were never touched and I got a few free dents and marks on the frame, free of charge.:banghead:

I sent the CEO of Taurus a certified/registered/return receipt letter telling him what happened. :cuss:

I never heard a word back from anyone.

Taurus has lost a customer and gained a ruthless critic!:fire:

I do not know if all the Taurus bashing is justified or not, but the fact that no LEA in the United States issues Taurus guns tells me more than all the threads in the web.

All the Taurus bashing is complete bs.
Oh, there is plenty of truth to it. A PT945 was the most egregious, worthless lemon handgun I ever had. I don't think it ever fired more than two consecutive shots. In fairness, this was a long time ago (1995) with a single example, but once burned ...

There is too much smoke to be no fire.

Where does Taurus actually repair their guns?? I would think Florida or Brazil.
When people ask me about Taurus revolvers I reply "for a few dollars more get a Smith" - I have seen too many problems with them on the range and many gunsmiths refuse to work on them. The only way I would consider a Taurus revolver is if it were used, at a great price and I could shoot it first. To be fair I do think their poly frame semi autos are pretty good - I own a PT 145 and it is a good gun. I also own a PT92AS on which the rear sight is falling off and while it does shoot decently the fit and finish are poor. All in all hit or miss seems to describe them fairly. Their choice of metals IMHO is poor and they try to produce quality guns using poorly paid, inept Brazillians instead of well paid Americans. They try to sell guns on price instead of quality. If you look on all the gun forums for complaints I think you would find Taurus #1. They DO make some good stuff but they seem to make about as much crap.

To cpearce1014 the original poster;

Please remember this thread when you get your gun back and let us know about your customer experience.
How long to get it repaired.
Did they act like they cared.
