I just acquired a Sig P230 and am attempting to field strip it. I have made sure it is unloaded, removed the Magazine, and flipped the disassembly lever down to the 6 oclock position. When I pull the slide to the rear and attempt to lift it up and off of the frame it won't budge. It feels as if flipping the lever down did nothing at all.

What am I doing wrong, this is driving me NUTS!

Thats not how the manual describes the disassembly, but I will give it a shot!
Anyone Else?

Try wiggling it.

Magazine out. Slide forward. Flip the switch to 6 o'clock. Rack the slide all the way back and wiggle it a bit side to side while lifting at the rear. I found mine was catching occasionally during disassembly/reassembly, and this was the fix that worked for me.

If it is new this is normal. Maybe your P230 hasn't been used much if at all. There is alot of spring inside that slide. The first few times taking it down will require some effort. Shooting some will make it easier.

You just need to do as cpaspr and NGIB suggest. These are tight guns, but you will be able to disassemble it.

Thanks cspaspr!! That was all it took, it isn't new (made in 92) but it has been fired very little.

BTW I picked it up for $299 98% condition or better, with the box and all paperwork, even the test target that shows one ragged hole at 10 meters! I love this gun already and I haven't even shot it.

...

Just make sure ya note the manual and the return spring is larger at the front end, and smaller at the rear, which you put on first and slide it back.. key.. IF the same as a P232 return spring.
