As I posted here couple weeks ago I traded a Colt New Service/.357 parts gun that looked very nice for a S&W 25-5 4" .45LC that looked very nice, it shot good at the range too. But I am not into .45LC reloading and ammo is $$$! The reason I really got this unpinned 1986 Mod 25 was I have a buddy who is a recent .45LC addict. He happens to have a S&W 1917 COMMERCIAL in 95% (with old diamond grips, grooved hammer, ect) that I have been trying to trade him out of for years. While he doesn't know exactly what it's worth(and niether do I -exactly) he knows his gun is valuable, IE worth more than $400. Well I got him salivating real good when I pull out the freshly polished Mod 25 , a very impressive piece with the Goncola Alves grips ect. Let him stew abit until he tried to pry me with $500. I refused but said I'd trade this rare gun for his old .45acpS&W and when I said I'd throw in 200 rnds of Corbon .45 ammo(my whole stash!) he gave in , after the 3rd or 4th drink. I went home tonight with it , but it is locked in my trunk in the garage. Serial# and pictures to follow. While it's not the 1950 Army I've always wanted , it'll do!:D

Who says guns and alcohol don't mix? :D

Congratulations on a fine revolver! I've only seen one of the Commercial 1917's before, and it was a sweetie. Pictures, please!

Just came back from range with the guy, sober(just kidding I don't drink much at all) we tested our gun trades! He was very happy with his Mod 25:D and it shot well for him with centered groups with cowboy loads and just a little lower with the MUCH hotter 200 grain Corbons. The range guy said"where did you find a Model 25? :D So I was much relieved. Nobody paid much attention to me with the old antiique. And those 1/10" sights are hard to use and the trigger pull DA &SA are MUCH heavier than the Mod 25 so when I turned in groups twice as large as his(and I am much the better shot) with 5.1 grains of 231 under a 200 grain H&G 68 he smiled and thought he got the best of me. Gun hit about 6-8" low with that load. However when I switched to Ball, I chewed out the center of target :D somebody had regulated the front sight when they filed it into a flat post on the back. The lanyard ring is missing but the frame has a hole. No US markings , extremely nice original blue(you can tell markings never buffed) very tight in evry respect . The serial # is: 17551x . I would like to know when it was made Mike! I am warming up the photos drat camera needs batteries. Photo shoot manana!

The grips look like the ones on most registered Magnums I see , they have silver S&W medallions (with a little tarnishing).:)
