We've all done it -- haven't we? Come on -- admit it. You have! Loaded up with your gear before a day at the range or a backwoods hunting trip, you strike that movie pose in the mirror. One hand rests on your holstered pistol. With a long gun in your other hand, you rest the butt against your side, angling the muzzle skyward. A bandolier of spare ammo is slung across your chest and a belt full of rounds hugs your waist.
You narrow your eyes and set that jaw. You are for a moment -- "hero guy".
From cowboys to cops, soldiers to banditos. Hunters to 2-gun competitors, Mad Max to Saving Private Ryan's Captain Miller (with his .45 and Thompson) all of them have that perfectly complimentary combo of pistol and long gun -be it a lever action and a .45 long Colt, or a Dusty AK47 and CZ. There are just certain combinations of firearms that -- like red wine and a hearty meat sauce -- just seem to work right together.
I've got a spot in my heart for the M1 Garand and a trusty .45acp. It just seems like one of those poetic -- anytime anywhere anything bar nothing combos.
However, there are days when my mood dictates that a Remington 870 loaded with 00 and a 4" Smith and Wesson model 66 packed with .38 cal, 158 grain HPs is all I could ever desire in 2-gun package.
So picture it - you're the one in the movie poster giving the audience that hard stare of a man who's seen and done it all. There's a sidearm on your hip, a long gun in your hands and the hot glow of the late day sun blasting your long shadow across the ridge. What's your hardware combo?
