K-9 Shot, Released from Vet Hospital

Gwinnett County police K-9 Aryn survived being shot by a murder suspect after tracking him into a wooded area late night Tuesday.

Gwinnett police had responded to assist Lilburn police in apprehending a suspect – identified as only a Black male in his early-20s – wanted for fatally shooting 55-year-old William S. Venable and his 17-year-old son, William C. Venable, Jr., during a home invasion.

Police brought in the K-9 unit and dispatched Aryn to track the suspect's location in a wooded area behind the Venables' home at 156 Woodfall Way in Lilburn. When shots rang out, police discovered the suspect had fired at Aryn, hitting him twice.

The K-9 was rushed to Gwinnett-DeKalb Emergency Vet Clinic and treated for his injuries. Paramedics released Aryn Wednesday morning and said he’s expected to make a full recovery.

Two Gwinnett officers returned fire and struck the suspect. He died after being transported to Gwinnett Medical Center.

Aryn is the first Gwinnett K-9 to be shot in the line of duty.

This K9 proves that just because you are shot, you are not done. Dogs aren't like people, they don't go, "Oh, I'm shot, I'm dead". Never give up.
