You know, it'd be really, really nice if we could get a college student close to either Pelosi, McCarthy, Boxer, Schumer, etc...

College students have deniability - they're SUPPOSED to protest. Media gives 'em a pass, and much of the court system will too...

Now, I mentioned PETA...

You know how they have a habit of throwing red paint on little old ladies wearing fur coats?

Howzabout instead of having it represent those cute little warm furry coat-makin' critters, have it be the blood of innocents who were not able to defend themselves?

do you know why peta picks on fur coats more than leather? It is a whole lot safer to throw paint on a little old lady than a hells angel biker!
Roy

You know what else PETA does? They use hot young naked girls to promote their message. I say, lets get hot young naked girls holding guns to promote our message :)

I will bring the camera!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Lets put it this way... how much credibility does PETA have to people who aren't gullible enough to believe things before they fact check them? PETA is pretty much a joke, so why should we lower ourselves to their level?

hah this reminds me of a few days ago when some peta type activists went to a friends class to give a presentation and he (a university student) schooled every nonsense argument they made. they really didn't know what to do, they were so shocked that they met informed resistance.

Because PETA _does_ get a lot of folks believing them. Just because you do not agree with their message doesn't mean that their methods to _get publicity around it_ are unsound.

Gun people are still fighting the publicity war using 19th century tools and tactics.

I don't agree with PETA's methods, and the message even less. I do defend their right to make fools of themselves in print and image.

well, I'm not a PETA activist. I eat what I hunt (excluding varmints), err 'harvest' gotta be more PC....

We eat a lot of cows...so leather is just using a part that we would throw out. Whether we're coating it with chromium phosphate or turning it into rawhide hammers and chew toys for fluffy.

Though I've never done it, I hear that coyote and squirrel pelts can go for good $$$. That's just a rumor, frankly I'd rather use a fluffier varmint for something like a coat....perhaps a mink.

Attention Oleg!!

You know, the PETA ads give me a really good idea for a pro-2A campaign.

PETA does the vegan celebrities nude (naughty bits obscured) with the tagline: I'd rather be naked than wear fur.

We just need to turn that around. Picture a pro-gun hottie (I'm thinking Laura Prepon, which is very distracting :D ) with the words:

If I'm not allowed to protect myself I might as well be naked.

Eh?

I don't think you mean this PETA. Yep, People Eating Tasty Animals.

I remember hearing how my dad dealt with one of those animal rights loonies. He said to him, "If I can't ride it, wear it, or eat it then they don't do me any good." I just wish I was there to see the expression on their faces. :what:

My dad farmed all his life until retiring a few years ago. Animals don't have any more "rights" than the corn in the field or the bales in the loft.

Getting back on topic...

What many groups will do is put a face to their cause. Like how "Jerry's kids" talks about the hardships the children and the families have to go through to get people to donate money. Or, how MADD shows pictures of people killed by drunk drivers to get people to think twice about driving home after drinking a few.

What we can do is put faces to our cause. Show people that were killed by armed robbers. Show women raped by armed men. Show one intact shop guarded by an armed shop owner versus the one burnt to the ground by an angry mob. Give them names, dates, and locations. Don't let them write it off as another place, another time, and "it can't happen to me".

Because what PETA does...and what you suggest...is terrorism.

Though fun to ponder, I would rather stay on "the high road (pun intended)."

Throwing red paint on people's coats lies somewhere between vandalism and assault.

Laying aside the fact that it's illegal, (and we don't plan or condone illegal acts on THR), it's also irresponsible, and does not put the gun culture in a positive light.

Some means and methods are simply dishonorable.

I think a line in geek's sig says it all:

Fight smart. Not dumb. Smart.

It's an interesting thought, but I think PETA leaves a bad taste in the MAJORITY of people's mouths. Even some vegans and vegetarians, I'd say. The PETA extremists give all of 'em a bad name.

Though I wonder - I would give something to know how many "antis" might also be PETA members or sympathizers? ...Nah, still never work. They'd just use the old double-standard like always:

Secret terror watch no-fly list = BAD
Secret terro watch no-gun list = GOOD!

Throwing paint on people to represent blood of animals = GOOD!
Throwing paint on people to represent blood of DISARMED VICTIMS = BAD!

bogie - maybe there is some truth to "there's no such thing as bad publicity." But not in THIS case, IMO. And while I agree to a point we should be doing more on the 'publicity war,' the internet is a new, high-tech tool that has done a lot for us. Problem is, 'the enemy' can use it as well....

Speaking of them, don't you suppose that THEY'VE considered - and then REJECTED - this very idea for their purposes? Only substitute pro-gun politicians and others instead of anti....

Guys, it's about publicity.

Get people thinking.

Because, if they are not _made_ to think about something, they'll continue to go happily through life wondering what songs they'll sing on the next American Idol.

Anyone have any better ideas?

Look at what the "mainstream subversive" organizations are doing... What can we use?

Or should we just keep writing three-page letters to the editor, which don't actually get to a point until halfway through the second page?

Maybe not all of PETA's tactics. But a campaign with a lot off loosely dressed young female activists that are well spoken would not hurt our cause a bit IMHO

So the original poster is asking gunowners to assualt powerful political people, yeah that will go well. Are you going to scream about your guns and the innocent people who died while doing this?

I am sure this will be a great success and an improvement for the image of gunwoners in general.

Why dont you be the first to volunteer? PETA members come in all stripes and colors.

If we can get Pam Anderson to work with us, I myself will volunteer to work with her. ;)

Okay - just quoted myself...

I can see Boxer or Pelosi at a campus thing, and then the aftermath... The blood of innocents explained on national television...

Probably work a lot better than suggesting that Huey go after 'em...

Paging Mr. Volk......Paging Mr. Volk.....

But, seriously.....while sexy pics catch a person's attention temporarily, it's the photos of regular Joes and Janes that will really get people thinking. And that's what Oleg does best.

We just need to get his work spread out on the 'Net more.

How would Oleg feel if those of us on MySpace or other pages used his images as part of our layout (with citation, of course)?
