You know how they have a habit of throwing red paint on little old ladies wearing fur coats?

Howzabout instead of having it represent those cute little warm furry coat-makin' critters, have it be the blood of innocents who were not able to defend themselves?

hah this reminds me of a few days ago when some peta type activists went to a friends class to give a presentation and he (a university student) schooled every nonsense argument they made. they really didn't know what to do, they were so shocked that they met informed resistance.

Because PETA _does_ get a lot of folks believing them. Just because you do not agree with their message doesn't mean that their methods to _get publicity around it_ are unsound.

Gun people are still fighting the publicity war using 19th century tools and tactics.

well, I'm not a PETA activist. I eat what I hunt (excluding varmints), err 'harvest' gotta be more PC....

We eat a lot of cows...so leather is just using a part that we would throw out. Whether we're coating it with chromium phosphate or turning it into rawhide hammers and chew toys for fluffy.

Though I've never done it, I hear that coyote and squirrel pelts can go for good $$$. That's just a rumor, frankly I'd rather use a fluffier varmint for something like a coat....perhaps a mink.

You know, the PETA ads give me a really good idea for a pro-2A campaign.


PETA does the vegan celebrities nude (naughty bits obscured) with the tagline: I'd rather be naked than wear fur.

We just need to turn that around. Picture a pro-gun hottie (I'm thinking Laura Prepon, which is very distracting ) with the words:

If I'm not allowed to protect myself I might as well be naked.

I remember hearing how my dad dealt with one of those animal rights loonies. He said to him, "If I can't ride it, wear it, or eat it then they don't do me any good." I just wish I was there to see the expression on their faces.

My dad farmed all his life until retiring a few years ago. Animals don't have any more "rights" than the corn in the field or the bales in the loft.

Getting back on topic...

What many groups will do is put a face to their cause. Like how "Jerry's kids" talks about the hardships the children and the families have to go through to get people to donate money. Or, how MADD shows pictures of people killed by drunk drivers to get people to think twice about driving home after drinking a few.

What we can do is put faces to our cause. Show people that were killed by armed robbers. Show women raped by armed men. Show one intact shop guarded by an armed shop owner versus the one burnt to the ground by an angry mob. Give them names, dates, and locations. Don't let them write it off as another place, another time, and "it can't happen to me".

Laying aside the fact that it's illegal, (and we don't plan or condone illegal acts on THR), it's also irresponsible, and does not put the gun culture in a positive light.

Some means and methods are simply dishonorable.

It's an interesting thought, but I think PETA leaves a bad taste in the MAJORITY of people's mouths. Even some vegans and vegetarians, I'd say. The PETA extremists give all of 'em a bad name.

Though I wonder - I would give something to know how many "antis" might also be PETA members or sympathizers? ...Nah, still never work. They'd just use the old double-standard like always:

Secret terro watch no-gun list = GOOD!

bogie - maybe there is some truth to "there's no such thing as bad publicity." But not in THIS case, IMO. And while I agree to a point we should be doing more on the 'publicity war,' the internet is a new, high-tech tool that has done a lot for us. Problem is, 'the enemy' can use it as well....

Speaking of them, don't you suppose that THEY'VE considered - and then REJECTED - this very idea for their purposes? Only substitute pro-gun politicians and others instead of anti....
