wondering if anyone has one or has used one and what they think (obviously im going to try it myself too :p). any guns u like better in the same class...

also, just cuz im too lazy to look, which gun manufacturers other than HK offer lifetime warranties? :D

I just recieved one for my birthday (21st - actually, I also recieved a Beretta M9 (20 year aniversery ed) in July (early 21st bday gift) - the sig was a surpise).

Anyway, I absolutely love it! It shoots great, and I love the finish and extra weight. It is currently my favorite shooter - however, this is probably due to the fact that it is the newest addition to my collection.

I also really like my Beretta M9 (9mm). But I also really like my HK USP Tactical 45, and my HK P2000 9mm.

As far as waranties - sig doesn't come w/ one (or maybe its 1-3 years - not sure -- but they do honor/back their products and are suppose to have great customer service). HK has a lifetime waranty for the originall purchaser - customer service is suppose to be sketchy (hk has moodswings regarding civilains and how they treat them). Beretta comes with a 2 or 3 year waranty - though I got a extension to 5 years (just had to send in the card within 30 days).

I hope this helps - But be aware that any of the three are highly addictive - especially the HKs and the Sigs. Alot of preferences in guns are personal - like if you like all metal guns or plastic ones.

Since you were looking at sigs - check out these pieces of eye candy:

p229-equinox™

I just got a P226st in .40s&w.
What suprised me is how good it looks. Sure, they look nice in the pictures, but they are really handsome in person with the satin grey stainless and all the black parts contrasting nicely.
In .40 it has mellow recoil, I can only imagine how soft they are in 9mm.
The best thing about Sig IMO, is the handling and control layout. I can reach all the controlls without shifting my grip. The control layout is very different from any other pistol, so you have to get used to it.
I'm going to order barrels in 357sig and 9mm for versatlity.

The P226ST is an extremely well built gun. In 9mm, the gun's weight makes recoil negligible, so I often use mine to introduce new shooters to centerfire calibers. The weight and minimal muzzle flip also contribute to enhanced control for DA shots and quick recovery time for subsequent shots.

Although the P226ST is an exquisite range gun and home defense weapon, a regular P226 would be more comfortable for CCW.

ooo, you can swap out the barrels on a 226st to make it 40 or 357 or 9mm?

also, i havent decided yet if i want to buy one new or used. about how much should i expect to pay for it used? (and not necessarily CPO)

I have a p226 in 9mm.. love it.. if you have small hands. (not me btw) you may have problems as the grip is nice for guys w/ big paws. I love it its my first wondernine, and I have no gripes about it, it has been perfectly flawless.. I own a preowned certified one, with tritium night sights its the perfect home defense pistol, it travels with me too. Although since aquiring my 1911, i have been leaving the sig at home.. I have never had a problem with rusting. The blueing on the barrel is beautiful, overall I would say its well worth the money that people pay for them brand new!

Zippy,
Used stainless models will be very rare because they haven't been in production long. I suppose around $700 or so for a good used one, maybe a little more for a minty one.
You can only change calibers if you start with a .40 or a 357sig.
Swapping back and forth between 357sig and .40s&w only requires a barrel swap.
To go to 9mm, you need the 15 pound 9mm recoil spring, an AFTERMARKET CONVERSION barrel (Barsto, Jarvis etc..) and 9mm mags. The extractor, breachface and ejector will not be perfect for 9mm so it's for range plinking only.
If this is your first pistol or first Sig, I would recomend buying a used P226 9mm, the basic model. You really need to shoot 9mm first, and you might not like Sig's after you shoot it for a while. You can usually get almost all your money back from a used P226/9mm if you decide to trade up or switch to a different brand.
A used p226/9mm is the best value in pistols today IMO.

opinion on 226-9mm

I am a retired cop. We were issued 226 in 9mm. I shot well over 5k rounds without a single malfunction . The other thing i like is its siplilsity of disassembly. Very easy to keep cleen. I purchased it when the city replaced the 9mm with sig pro 2340,s is 357. Now that's a hand full of gun!

What is is FOR?
If you are just going to haul it to the range in an SUV it will be fine. If you are going to wear it in a holster, a regular P226 is a lot more portable. And no 9mm kicks much anyhow. Bruce Gray says even the standard P226 is "like dryfiring with noise."
You can convert a .40 or .357 to 9mm but not vice versa.
