I was at a gun shop today browsing around and I came across a Hi-Point 9mm carbine used for $120. Well, this "ex-army" guy walked by and thought he'd add his .02 about the gun. His exact words were "oh man, you'd be surprised how much that gun kicks! After 100 rounds my shoulder hurt from firing one of those."

Is he an idiot or is there any truth to this? He was dead serious too. I thought at first he was joking, but sadly, no.

Its a 9mm carbine. If his shoulder hurts after that, $5 says he isn't really some ex-army guy. Course, next time you meet him, he may say ex-SF.

Yeah he was going through all the AR-15s as well giving his opinion on each one saying how cheaply they were made compared to his issued gun in the military.

then he walked out with some cheap chinese AR-15 saying it was made the best...

If he thinks the carbine kicks what did he think about 9mm handguns?

I imagine he did actually fire a Beretta.

I dunno, I was looking at handguns when I was in there, and he recommended the older police trade in SW Sigmas(9mm) saying they were great guns. Maybe they are, I dunno. He also stated he couldn't stand the kick on a .45. I personally think the 9mm is a lot snappier than a .45. The guy was probably around my age....24.

Surprisingly, yes...it does have some kick. Slaps your face a little too if you get choked up too much on the stock.

I'd rate it a little sharper than my Saiga, not as much 'shove' though. More of a quick slap. More than an AR IMO.

It's not something to worry about, I don't even bother with a shoulder pad. My female friend enjoys it a lot.

It won't kick much more than a .22, i.e. negligible. If his shoulder hurts from firing a 9mm carbine, he's got medical issues with his shoulder.

My nine year old LOVES to shoot my High Point!! Can't keep him in ammo.:D:D

No he is NOT a ex US Army/Marine/ Special Forces type, just a nine year old who likes to shoot!!:D

Its possible I suppose that someone might think that. I've actually had people scoff at me for saying that the .40S&W Kel-tec sub2000 has relatively high recoil. I very much doubt those same people had ever fired one.

Chris in va's right! Does have a bit of kick, probably from about a pound of bolt cycling back and forth.

The kick don't bother me, not that bad. The face slap thing is another story!

The face slap gets plain uncomfortable after a number of shots! No kidding it starts to hurt after a clip or two. One of the major things that does not impress me about the 995 carbine!

Maybe doesn't effect everybody the same, but me and Chris know about the little bitch slap the Hi-Point delivers every shot!

I find the hipoint carbine quite enjoyable to shoot as long as I keep my mouth closed. It tends to exhaust the smoke straight into my mouth if I don't

its a straight blow back so it does have a "snap" or "slap" but not unbearable by any means.

its the weight of the massive bolt flying back, not the power of the round that you feel

Being a direct blowback, your shoulder takes the brunt of the recoil. I find it comparable to my Yugo SKS. Its a fun little nudge just to let you know its there. One piece of advice, shave. The way the stock mates, it'll rip out any facial hair you have in your cheek.

I think the "face-slap" deal has something to do with the slightly springy plastic stock. It's almost as if it flex's just a bit upon firing.

Might be what sells the ATI aftermarkets stocks. I probably should get a different stock myself.

I never found the Hi-Point or KelTec carbines to have enough recoil to notice. To me they twitch (I couldn't call it 'kick') a little more than a .22, but not much more.

Of course it's all very subjective. I think I could shoot my AK, AR, .22-250, or 6mm indefinitely; but a Mosin carbine or lightweight .30-06 will start to wear me out after a few boxes of ammo.

It kicks enough to let you know it fired and that is it. Oh, and that cheek slap as has been mention gets a little annoying, but not bad. That said with mine with the ATI stock I am probably going to get a recoil pad to add a little LOP to it.

Geeeeeezus!

I have a Hi-Point carbine, it doesn't kick and if it is "slapping your face" you are holding it wrong.

My God!

Ok dude, we all bow to your superior experience and infinite knowledge. Though, just a thought before you feel too superior, did it occur to you some folks have different shaped heads and bodies than other folks? Take me for example, any position where I get a proper sight picture either with irons or the cheap red dot it came with gets the cheek slap. Lengthening the stock may help some with that problem.

My god and Geeeeezus indeed! You might tone down the smug level just a little bit.

I burn through about 200 rounds every time I go out... I never feel a thing. This "ex-army" guy must weigh about 97 lbs?

Seriously, the 995 has almost no kick at all.

:what: 9mm HP carbine --- Kick ! Does not compute !

And - Ya - I got one ! Got bigger kick from grandaughter when changing diaper .

Shot a buddies about a week ago. I agree with the face slap. I can't get a good cheek weld to the stock (with all my cheek fat mashed up) and still see through the rear aperture. I have to just sort of press my face onto the stock, which puts my cheekbone on the stock. A higher sight plain would help a lot. Shooting it using the cheap laser sight it came with so I could get my head off the stock some, it's got a negligible amount of recoil.

"ex-army" - that gun kicks! - 100 rounds hurt my shoulder

My kids loved shooting the 9MM Kel-Tec Carbine, and it's even lighter.
