what about the unbelievably ugly Hi-Point 9mm Carbine for my theoretical truck gun?

It's cheap as can be, small, light, shoots 9mm.

Anybody have any experience with these?

I have one and it is really accurate and so far shoots everything I put in it with no problems............not bad for a plinker and cheap also........I doubt if the Keltec will outshoot it......and if it is stolen, broken or lost, cheap enough to replace..........

I had one of those carbines but sold it right away so I never shot it. It was one of the few guns that I sold before I ever shot it. I don't regret getting rid of it, it was ugly and felt flimsy and cheap, it may have been reliable and accurate but the general feel of the gun does not inspire confidence.

Also it only held 10 rounds, there are plenty of 9mm pistols that you can buy with factory hi caps. Why would I need a 10 shot 9mm rifle when my Beretta 92 holds 15+1 and is much better made and more handy?

I'm not concerned about the KT's advantage of folding.

It is also somewhat too expensive for my purposes.

Anybody had a bad experience with a hi-point?

I have both the Hi-Point Carbine and the KELTEC Sub 2000. For a truck gun I would use the Hi-Point, while not as rugged as something like an SKS, it is definitely tougher than the KT. I also regularly put 300 - 400 rounds through it every time it goes to the range. But the KT is nice for it's concealability, and the ability to use full capacity magazines.

I had one. It was horrible. I may be the exception, but it never worked. I never fired over 2 rounds without a jam of some sort. The bolt would stick and get jammed.

I exchanged it with my dealer and the replacement was just a little better. It still jammed all the time but the bolt didn't stick.

I hate them and would never own anything by them that I even thought I'd have to use in any situation where my safety was a question.

Buy a shotgun, sks, or even a 10/22 for your truck gun. Anything but the hi point.

Firestar.....If you had shot it, you would have kept it......good plinker, cheap ammo, and really fun to shoot........by the way, it is a lot more accurate than your Beretta, and chances are you will never need those extra rounds anyway........
