Hi-Point 9mm Carbines Kick??

No kidding, I am soft as a pig turd!

I would rather fire 100 rounds of 8x56R from a Steyr Mannlicher carbine than fire a Hi-Point 995 100 times.

It sounds like he either wasn't shooting it correctly, full of crap, trying to mess with you, or wanted to buy the gun you were looking at. I had a guy do something similar to me at a gun show. It turns out he just wanted me to lose interest in the gun so he could buy it. I bought it anyway.

I havn't shot the Hi-Point but I do have a 9mm carbine and I can't imagine how the recoil would hurt a full grown adult. I don't even notice the recoil.

I have one in an ATI stock, recoil is almost non existant, with the flimsy oem, you can tell the carbine has fired. Not much else... Geez louise it's a 9mm in a 7.5lb rifle, now my 1894s 44magnum with hot handloads has a bit of a kick, but with factory ammo I could shoot it all day... Laser995.jpg

I shot one of the Beretta's, and although it didn't have a lot of kick, it was a lot more than I expected.

I usually shoot 308's.

I don't have a problem with the kick, recoil, whatever you want to call it.

I just don't want to weld my cheek to the stock. If I take a proper hold, cheek on the stock, looking down the sights, cheek gets just a touch of slap. Don't hurt at first, but like getting lightly slapped a few dozen times, eventually starts to sting.

The only gun I've fired with this phenomenon is the Hi-Point. I attribute it to the flexability of the stock.

May not effect everybody, and not to be confused with the recoil. But ole Stevie don't like getting a face-sting from his gun.

I own a Daewoo K1A1 carbine with a wire retracting stock. Face rides the wire(metal rod) during shooting. The Daewoo doesn't hurt me. Also have a Century L1A1 with a plastic stock, it doesn't do the face slap thing either. Of course it's a lot more musket than the 995. Remington Nylon 66 has the plastic stock, no hurt there either(no recoil).

Just the Hi-Point. It's the crappy stock!

A Hi Point does exhibit the sensation commonly known as recoil.

I do not find the amount of recoil exhibited by a 9mm Hi Point carbine to be in any way uncomfortable.

My 11 year old son does not find the amount of recoil exhibited by a 9mm Hi Point carbine to be in any way uncomfortable.

These observations come from owning and shooting over 2000 rounds through a Hi Point Carbine over the course of 3 years.

I'm a big fan, but not a fanboy, of the Hi Point carbine. They aren't pretty but they are accurate, reliable and very fun to shoot.

No he wasn't messing with me. There were about 4 of them to choose from, all at the same price, I'm guessing LEO trade ins or something.

The guy ended up buying some cheap as dirt M16 chinese rip off. Some people just don't have a tolerance for pain.

I've never shot the Hi-Point.

However, I do have the Kel-Tec 9mm. The recoil is more than I expected, but no problem at all.

What irritates me is the mass of the monster bolt slamming back and forth under my cheek. I've got a thin face, and after about 100 rounds with just a thin piece of metal between my cheek and the counterweighted blowback bolt, it starts "slapping" like others have said.

Recoil is there, but not a problem by any stretch. That slap is annoying though. I'm going to build a cheek pad at some point to see if that eliminates it. The way it is now, my cheekbone/upper jaw is getting sore after a while.

YMMV. Hope that helps, though I know it's not the gun you're asking about.

I never shot my Hi-Point without the ATI stock, so all I know about the factory stock is that it felt flimsy and was much lighter than the ATI. The ATI has more weight, a more convienient shape and a bolt buffer. Recoil from mine is little more than a slight physical notification that the round has fired. I have shot 100-round strings, and have no doubt I could fire 1000 or more rounds per shooting session without any physical aftereffects.

My father in law has one. I dont like shooting it because it does slap your face. I do however love shooting my m44 so i dont have a problem with recoil. I just dont like the slap from the high point.:uhoh:

My .45 CX4 has a very... distinct feel upon recoil. It's certainly not a large enough impulse as to cause pain, but the feeling of the bolt smacking into the back of the receiver is sharp and distinctive.

More of a curiosity than an actual complaint though. That bolt has got to be 1/3 the total mass of the gun, so it's only natural that it would feel funny if the center of gravity is shifting that much when it fires.
