I have a first generation Hi Point 9mm carbine purchased back in the mid
90's. Has anyone done a stock swap out to the new tactical stock and did you encounter any problems? The job looks easy enough but we all have been through easy jobs that turn into a PITA. Does the piston type recoil pad make the recoil that much less noticeable? Not that the recoil is bad but for a 9mm it does have a little kick to it. Thanks in advance.

JT, I am not sure what the stock costs... but I have read on here that HP will install a new TS stock for $60 total parts and labor.

As far as the recoil, well... it is a 9mm so the recoil (for me) is not significant anyway, but it does certainly "engage" while shooting so it must do something... also, I tend to get my scruffy face hair stuck in the stock.

All of that said though, the new stock is awesome as is the carbine. I have shot 3000-4000 rounds of lead ball (Based on my reloads....) through this gun with ZERO malfunctions and about two cleanings. In my opinion, it is the most reliable gun made in the US today.

A few months back

Did my HP a few months back and have still not taken it out to shoot.

But the instructions were very simple and it was easy and took about an hour,if I did it again = it would be much faster.

Were all the tools you needed pretty basic tools, I believe they use hex bolts. I have that covered, with a set of T handle allen wrench. Anyway you look at it, I will still be way ahead of the price the Hi-Point 9mm carbine is selling for today $250-$275. I paid approx. $140 NIB for the rifle in 95-96. Just wish the't come out with larger capacity mags but if you were to shoot off say 20 rnds rapidly, the composite stock around the barrel may melt/warp! The fulgly little carbine performs quite well though!

Theyre great little guns, definitely one I regret getting rid of.

As to the stock, It seems to be installation was pretty straightforward, but I think I did need to do some sanding/grinding to make it work. Nothing too substantial, but thought it should be noted.
