Hi-Point Carbine

But I wouldn't bet my life on this brand of weapon.

My father-in-laws GF also has a NEF youth Pardner 20ga oump and a 4" Model 10 .38 (both of which she shoots regularly and well!). If you toss in the hi-point .45 carbine into the mix, she should be GTG for HD duty.

I bought one of the early generation 9mm carbines. I think I paid less than $200 NIB and out the door. I liked the ergonomics of the factory stock, but didn't care much for the looks, so I added the ATI stock. The ATI stock is a little "hard" I guess you could say, it isn't as chuckable as the factory stock, isn't really as ergonomic either, and some say it causes problems over the long term.

No problems yet, just shot it today. I love shooting it and the accuracy is fantastic. I added a scope, but the blowback action can be hard on the mounting and move the scope around a little, at least in my experience. I was using the weaver mount that came with it, not a rail. I just went back to the sights, which are really pretty good.

I haven't even handled the new model. It looks a little too radical for me and if you throw in tax and maybe shipping or an FFL transfer fee if you order one it doesn't present the same crazy value as the original 9mm did.

As others have mentioned it is fugly. My kid bought one, and it's been utterly reliable. Good fun plinking gun that we can shoot at most indoor pistol ranges also. I wouldn't hesitate to use it to ventilate goblins if necessary.

Tactical Stocks

Just got off Hi Point website and spoke with them. They have the new stocks for sale for $40(you install) or the will do it for $60, you pay for shipping to them and they ship back by FedEx for free. Said turn around time 2 1/2 weeks. Considering this for my 9mm carbine. I'll still be way under what they are selling for now, my first generation NIB $125 OTD in mid 90's. Zero problems.

Guys with the new tactical stock configuration, is it worth an extra $60. It does a have a piston type of recoil absorber and better attachements areas, ie. laser or led flashlight. I'll still have under $200 invested, I doubt I've put 300 rounds through mine yet.
