Hi Point Carbine

Its not the fit of the mag, per se, its the way an empty mag will hang up if you don't hold the button down all the way until the mag is all the way out.

Picked one up last week and just go a chance to shoot it today. WOW - pretty cool. I have an AR, AK and several other long guns and pistols. I think this is gonna be fun.

Shot a paper target at 50 feet. One box took the center out of a target. No real misses...

I am considering picking one of these up. Which do you guys prefer the 9mm or .40? I reload for both 9mm and .40 so ammo is no problem.

What are you planning on using it for? If it's just a plinker, 9mm ammo will be less of a hit on the wallet.

1000 yard shots of course. Naw really just plinking, cost of ammo no big deal not much difference in the .40 and 9mm reloaded ammo. Just was wondering about accuracy, and maybe recoil.

No experience with the .40 Hi Point. Friend of mine has a couple 9mm carbines. They've always seemed to work whenever I saw them in action, anyhow, and they're pleasant little shooters. Not really something I'm all that keen on buying, personally, but it's not something I'd be in a hurry to get rid of if it were already in my collection, either.

I've done a bit of reading on them, and not much bad to say, except the price alone scares some away. and they are a bit ugly, but for a couple hundred bucks I'm tempted.

Some people have money to burn. I don't particularly like Hi Point products, but I don't hate them, either. In fact, I think they're doing a good thing - they're trying to make reasonable quality products at a reasonable price for people who can't necessarily go out and spend $1000 on a Sig Sauer or whatever. And they do stand behind their products. If they did it wrong, and it fouls up on account of it, they will fix it on their dime.
Can't beat that for the money.

Yeah, that's the over whelming statement you hear is "good for the money" and they stand behind the product. I might just pick one up.

If its just for fun and you reload then just go with the 9mm There not tact drivers at ,50 yards mine shoots 3 inch groups ,i didnt even try the 100 yards but were talking about pistol ammo. They are fun to shoot and i only had one ftf in 200 rounds and not one on my second trip. A decent inexpensive rifle that can play several rolls in the household.

I owned one for a short time myself. Given all the positive things/reasons laid out, I agree that they are a great investment. I ended up giving mine to my son right after he had a breakin one evening....now he loves it too. BTY...I paid $195.00 for mine...NIB.

I got one new in February 2005 for $149 at a gun show. Just too cheap to pass up. That little carbine is a hoot so shoot. Accurate and reliable. She is like a girl that may seem ugly at first glance but as you take a longer look at her, you begin to see exactly how beautiful she really is. It shoulder well, has great "iron" sights and always goes bang when you pull the trigger. Fun to fire from the hip too. It actually feels natural to me. I'm a lefty so I like the charging handle on the left side.

I am toying with getting one of the new TS versions for grins and giggles. Be fun to hang a bunch of ultra cheap "tacticool" stuff on it just to see what reaction people have to it at the range.

My gal wanted a short light rifle with low recoil,I took her out to check one out she liked it so I bought one.Brought it home sighted it in for her and she absoulutly loves the thing.I was supprised at the accuracy a little over 1" at 25
2.5" at 75yds and 3-4" at 100yds five shot groops from the bench with iron sites for 200.00 I think that's darn good.shes shot the heck out of it for the last 6 wks.holows,fmj.lead hand loads it eats every thing.shes put 500rnds through it a has yet to have a failure of any kind.Fun little plinker,Whent back last week and bought my self one the 995 t and it shoots great with the red dot I put on it.Still ugly but a lot of bang for the buck.
Bob.

hi-point 995

I own a 995, dropped the extremely ugly stock, put on the ONLY aftermarket stock (ATI, which i think makes it a whole new gun) and bought a couple hi-caps for it (15 rnds, which actually work great once you modify the feed lips alittle). It looks great, shoots great, feels amazing shouldered, sights are very cool (no need for a red-dot here), recoil is like a 22, and is extremely accurate.

It is less than half the price of a beretta carbine and from what I have heard from people who own them (cx4) and who have shot my hipoint, they seem to be rather upset that they spent the extra money when both guns do exactly the same thing. Mine came with the compensator/laser, which is zeroed in perfectly at 30 yards and also works VERY well.

Plus, consider 9mm ballistics out of a rifle barrell compared to your average 3-5 inch pistol barrell. Very good velocity and penetration. It is my poor mans MP5 and i couldn't be happier with it. Probably the best gun for the money that I have bought out of my entire collection. Wouldn't mine having one in .40 actually lol

promag is currently the only maker of hicap aftermarket mags for the hipoint, and only in 9mm. They are 15 rounders and are around 19 bucks i think. They are notorious for feeding issues, but usually it is because the feed lips arent bent the correct way. I messed around with the one i have long enough that it finally started working with no jams or issues at all.

The problem with the ATI stock is that it doesn't flex. The "planet of the apes" stock is designed to absorb the recoil of the action. I had an ATI stock on mine and put over 1000 rounds through it. The recoil actually started to bend the action screws.

While ugly, the "stock" stock is designed for a purpose.

Did you have the buffer?

Yes, but the rubber buffer that comes with the ATI stock doesn't absorb all of the recoil.
