Hello all, new here and am wondering if anyone has any experience with the Hi Point 9mm carbine, and what they think of them. I have two and think they are fun little carbine and as accurate as hell............I think they rate right up there with my SKS's as the most fun for the buck.

I have a 4095 carbine, and bought a 995 for my grandson. We both love them, they're a real hoot to plink with! Put red-dot sights on both, now it's just a matter of dot-it-and-you-got-it. Great fun with water-filled soda cans.

collector48, if you go to the "Search" tab and click on "Advanced Search," type "Hi Point Carbine" into the search field, choose "Search titles only" and hit "Search" you will find many, many threads on the Hi Points. In short, some look down on them as cheap but most that have them, like them.

I just wish they would put the charging handle on the right side. Still have not figured that one out. :scrutiny:

Well, my best guess as to why the handle is on the left is because your supposed to reload it like a pistol. For us right handed people its hold gun in right hand, drop the magazine out, slap a fresh magazine in with the left hand, and either thumb the slide release or pull back on the slide with the left hand. As the HP carbine has no (external) slide or slide release, you get a bolt handle. :D

I own one of "classic" HP995s. Great gun for its price. Shoots well, accurate enough for plinking (I don't shoot paper much, so I can't give you grouping info), light weight and handy, and damned reliable. I've put about 800 rounds through it and have had only a single failure to eject (looked like the bullet's rim was malformed or damaged to begin with).

Its comparable to a SKS fun wise, but they fit different niches. SKS is more useful for longer range shooting (compared to the HP) and can be used to hunt deer sized game. The HP carbines make a better trunk gun or home defense option due to their smaller size and are limited to smaller game.

I had one and hated it. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

Sorry to hear that. Did you have problems with it? Or the cheapness/ugliness of it? Regardless of how much fun they are, if a person really prefers attractive, precision firearms, he's not going to like the HP carbines. If you can overlook the warts, they're really a lot of fun.

The day I bought my .40 carbine, I bought two boxes of ammo and headed for the indoor range. I've posted this photo here before, this is 50 rounds into one target, I think it was 10 yards or so, been awhile. Took the gun out of the box, blew the cardboard dust off (the range attendant was trying to stifle a snicker as she looked at my new beast), loaded it up and made this hole. No sight adjustments, jams or anything. Range attendant didn't snicker anymore.

I have a 995B-- with the original Planet of the Apes stock-- the only money I have "sunk" into it after purchasing is a factory "compensator"-- which is not much more than a visual item that protects the crown-- and few mags, and a crap ton of ammo. I got it a couple of years ago new for $159, and have been pleased. It has always gone "bang", and I have been offered over $200 for it, but I see no need to sell it-- it usually rides by the headboard at night, and I trust it to do yeoman anti zombie duty if called on..

good value-- ugly and low magazine capacity, but it works...

you can move it to the right side-- or you can on mine..unscrew it and move it-- -but as a righty, it still works fine to me on the left...

Bought one for the wife, butt ugly but its an accurate little bugger and a blast to plink with.Alota bang for the money spent.

I saw some security video on the TV news last night. I think it was in NYC, something about a guy trying to rob a store with a ball bat, and the owner pulled a gun on him, causing the guy to find Jesus. The video showed the shop owner holding the gun, and it was a High Point carbine! Looked to be the 9mm 995 model. Thought that was kinda cool, but surprised to see it in NYC. Might have been somewhere else though, the wife was yapping at the same time (imagine that).

I went to Washington D.C with the high school band 2 years ago, my friend was trying to get a guard at the capitol to take a picture with him. When he turned around he was holding a High point carbine. We were both kinda surprised to see this guy (tacticooled all out: vest, drop leg holster and IBA) carrying a High point. We asked him about it and he refused to answer, and refused the picture saying "I am not a tourist attraction!". Although the other guard who wore a M4 with aimpoint was Okay with pictures.

It's got some detractors, but I will say this about them. They feel better than any of its contemporaries. It feels amazing once shouldered. It is also very reliable and affordable.

It's a total win in my book.

have one in 40, had to disassemble to clean upon receipt (lousy lying seller) and have not reassembled... Will likely get its pistol mate.

The stocks don't have the proper heft for hitting people, it is too light and would probably break or bend. Since it only holds ten rounds of 9mm, that could be a real concern.

Had One about 10 years ago. Great little shooter. Its no AR15 or M1A, but you could arm the entire neighborhood with these things for the equivalent cost I bet. Would probably buy another as a truck gun if I come by one at the right price. What are they selling for now?

That is not a bad price for a used one. You can send it straight away to the factory to fix all the broken parts and have it shipped back to you and still come out cheaper than new.

col. plink

Call up Hi point and send it in, they will gladly reassemble for you.

Or sell it to me. pm if interested
