thinking about getting one of these, the 9 seems like it would be alot of fun, anyone have any experience with these? are they worth having? home defense, range fun would be the only uses
 
I have one as well, never had any trouble. I like it and shoot it regularly.
 
Me 3, ugly little thing that does a nice job.

recently found a ruger 9mm PC carbine the is even better. so the HP moved to wifes corner.
 
Friend of mine bought one about 15 years ago when they were $79. Everyone else had 9mm Colt or Olympic AR's (3 Colts, 2 Olympic), laughed at his Hi-point. Turned out that the Hi-point was by far the most accurate 9mm. It was extremely easy to nail steel plates at 100 and 200 yards with the thing. Never had any kind of misfire or hiccup. I still remember it well because it was very aggravating how well the thing shot.

I never could get past the cheap feel and looks of it and force myself to get one, but I believe that he still keeps it under his bed as his HD gun and shoots it regularly.

I got to laugh. Many years ago Im at an out door range sighting in my deer rifle.

That done I pull out the 995 for some fun. Snobby dude next to me starts ragging on HP.
I pull out some cash from my pocket and say "10 shots best score?
Took the wife out to eat that night. :) YMMV
 
Its far heavier than it needs to be, but I've heard nothing but praise for them. Come to think of it, so is C-9.
 
I have a 4095 carbine in .40, and a 9mm 995 for my grandson. Both are accurate and reliable, and a lot of fun. I just traded a Ruger 10/22 this weekend for another 995 for myself, haven't had it out yet. Yes, they're ugly, but they shoot very well. Especially with cheap BSA red-dot optics.
 
The older "Plant of the Apes" stock versions were like $180; they are much uglier than the new 995. I had to adjust the front sight but it it very reliable and accurate.
Need to get the factory mags to keep em reliable.
 
I wish I had bought a few years ago when they were about $100.
Nutnfancy has a couple of vids on YouTube about the Hi Point Carbine. He's long winded and the videos run on but he gives absolutely every bit of info you can want on the topic. Watching the Pro Mag magazines fail was interesting since they are the only hi cap mag manufacturer that I know for the Hi Point. Anyway, check out the vids if you have a spare 40 minutes or so and can tolerate the word "Dude."
 
I see magazines as the biggest no go for the HiPoints, the ugly clunkiness could almost be overlooked if they supported quality hi capacity mags. As it is their OE mags are to expensive let alone aftermarket that have to be "tweaked".

Plus one on that. May as well put the money towards a more profitable project.
 
Just to chime in with my 2cts worth, it is as stated by most here a fine carbine. I could handle the ugly because it was pretty in its own accord. I broke down and bought a replacement stock that has all the rails for what ever goodies you would like to add, and put a muzzle brake on it just for looks as it does not have any real felt recoil. Mags are only down point. Another good point on the one I have is I walked through the doors of a pawn shop about the time the store owner was putting it out. He was grumbling to his help about why he bought the ugly thing. I offered him $100 and he countered with $125.00 out the door.
 
love my 995, it goes bang everytime i pull the trigger and I always hit what I'm aiming at. I paid 229 for mine 2 years ago at the LGS. Yeah it's ugly, and yeah, you have to stick to the 10 round mags from Hi Point for the most part, but get a couple and you can have all the fun you want. I got my wife's dad and younger brother both wanting one for their own
 
I'd love to have the .45. I hear you can take hi cap 1911 mags and modify the catch hole to fit in them.
 
Had a 995 sold it. Ugly peice of crap, always went bang, and hit what I pointed it at. If it would take glock mags I would have kept it couldn't stand the 10rnd single stack mags.
