The gun shop weasels around here usually try to about double their money on Hi-Points. They love them because they never have to see them again after they are out the door, because of the owner-operated warranty.

Wow. Just wow.
I bought my .45 Hi Point new for $165 or something near it.

My LGS can't keep them on the shelves. They had a .380 in the used case for $85. Had it been the 9mm, I would have bought it on the spot.

GM always is overpriced, but that is absurd.

In Minnesota the two worst are Gander Mountain, and Bill's Gunshop! I've posted here, and elsewhere on Ganders gouging, including selling 20 round boxes of 9mm premium hollowpoints for as much as $70.00 per box!

Bill's routinely charges $50.00 to $200.00 over most other dealers(except Gander:))mark-up, especially vulnerable are first time AR buyer's, I've seen Bill's selling Bushmaster XM15's for as much as $1400.00 after the advent of the current WH administration, last I checked(recently)they were still getting $1100.00 + for XM15's, a rifle that can be obtained most anywhere for around $800.00! BTW, Bill's justifies these added mark-ups by including one(1)free range session! :)

There's a lot of naive gun buyer's who are vulnerable to these outfits and their gouging, in my opinion most gun buyer's are vulnerable to these outfits, like buying a car, a house, a bike, whatever, experience and savvy are essential to protecting yourself from these disreputable retailers....

The Gander Mountain do not have a clue. They are lost in the come to the mall type of culture.
I go to an specialized local gun shop where you get better prices and expert advice and it is family owned.
No doubt there are some cool guys in some bigger retailer but their prices, assortment and whole experience simply sucks. They should find someone to help them put together a real business plan.

this is one of the funniest threads i've read here in awhile. i'm glad some guys here have a sense of humor, still. :D

i'm not surprised at the price. Gander Mountain is the last place i shop for anything. i only go there to look at stuff, then i go to my local shop, and we have a lugh about their prices. even their transfer fees are outrageous; my local shop only charges about $20; GM wants up to $75! i can't believe people pay their prices.

i was there yesterday, in fact, with my girlfriend, to show her a Sig C3, and a Les Baer they had on sale, used. i saw a couple there, looking at a S&W Sigma 9VE; they were about to pay $500 for it! i asked the guy about his tattoos, and then when teh salesperson went off to handle something, i suggested he go to my local shop to buy the same gun for $200 less; my local shop is about 10 minutes away. he thanked me, and left.

What cracks me up is when I go there occasionally maybe twice/year for some of the promotions and I find the following things consistently:

A) Their used gun rack some guns are priced higher than the value of new ones in the same model in many other places.
B) The ammo prices are switched around and mingled so you think you are getting one price and then when you get to the counter they ring a totally different price. Watch out for that bill it has happened to me (or tried to do to me) at least 4 occasions. I had to walk the store the manager to the place I picked up the box from and show him the price. My take.. I think they know very well and play that card knowing many do not even notice.
C) Very few or none have a clue of what you want or you need and cannot provide any expert advice.
D) The customers/folks around the store and the whole environment is depressing. I have seen a guy taken a gun from a rack w/o asking permission and in the process of putting it back slam another 3 guns into the ground.

The whole place and the typical clientele is just bad mojo. As I said I go to a local store that can provide anything I want, for gunsmithing, reloading and whole nine yards. For everything else there is midway, brownells and others but I try to buy local to support my town. They have expert folks that are shooting enthusiast and avid hunters and know the business.
One of the pistol guys at the gun shop even shoots with me at the weekly IDPA drills and he is a very good shot and well conditioned guy.

Gander Mountain is a frikin joke.

Gander Mountain near me selling Mosin Nagants for more than 200 and old Brazilian Mausers for over 400.
