I have an FM M95 Hi-Power. Does anybody carry their Hi-Power and what do you recommend for one. I'm a pretty big (read Portly) Middle Aged Male and I'm not fond of the Idea of needing to cross draw from a shoulder rig.
I've been carrying my Hi-Power IWB in a Milt Sparks Versa-Max 2 since 2000. It is perfect for slim profile pistols like the Hi-Power and I've been very pleased with it.
However, if your pants are already tight, IWB may not be the way to go. The cocked hammer will dig into your side once your body-mass index is on the overweight side. If you are just a bit high on the BMI, then the commander (rounded) hammer will work just fine; but the spur hammer can be a bit uncomfortable for long periods of carry.
I guess I don't qualify as "Portly", at 6 ft and roughly 175-180 pounds, but this has served me pretty well for about a year now:
The tab between the hammer and my hide does a pretty good job of keeping the sharp corner on the hammer from drawing blood, plus it's almost impossible for the safety to get rubbed off.
Only problem is, this is not a holster you're gonna holster/re-holster in a hurry or with one hand. If that's important to you, best to choose another holster. For me, it's never been an issue. *shrug*
Anyway, you can find one here at Midway Supply for less than $45.
I also have the mag holder that matches it. I never use it, however. It AND the holstered gun, as it turns out, is just too much stuff to try and cram into my waistband and still be able to function in any meaningful way. So the mag generally just gets stuck in a pocket.
I don't carry my BHP any more for daily CCW, but back when I did, I found an inside the waistband holster from Andy Arratoonian over in the UK (Horseshoe Leather) to be a real winner for me, personally.
I sometimes carry my High Power. When I do, it's in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II IWB. These are the best out there, in my opinion, and in over 25 years of carrying concealed, I've tried lots of them. Have a huge box full of holsters I never use.
I carry my M95 Detective IWB in a Bianchi Professional 100 (size 12). If your FM is the full sized it will be another size. It's a pretty good holster, I'm happy with it. I also carry it occasionally under a cover garment in a Don Hume JIT slide #10. This would work for either size M95. Finally if you like a pancake holster for a full sized M95 try the Bianchi 7/7L for the Colt Government.
If you find an IWB uncomfortable then consider the Don Hume JIT slide.
