A friend offered to sell me his HK 4 32cal with a 22cal kit for $350. I know very little about this model HK, but it has a very nice fit and finish. It seems like it would make a sweet little carry gun. Do any of you have information on this pistol as far as quality, value, or just your personal opinion? Also how difficult is it going to be to fined a 380 cal kit?

thanks
HC

If in great shape, a two caliber HK 4 is worth more than $350. Buy it for fun, sell it for profit if you don't care for it.

It's an interesting, well thought out design. You'll probably like it.

I thought I got a deal @ $450 for my HK4 w/ 22 & 380 fixin's. From what I've learned, the 380 will beat up the little gun. It was does really well in the other 3 calibers. Mine was a tad finicky in finding 22lr ammo it liked. Dead on accurate tho when I finally found ammo.
You done good at $350 ;)

Thanks guys, that makes me feel better, I looked it up in the blue book and they didn't value it well at all. I would have thought that being a HK, the name recognition alone would cause it to be valued higher than it was. Although on gun broker there are a few that are for sale in the $500 range, which seems high to me. I am just not sure what to go by as far as value? I guess it's an HK so don't worry-be happy:D

thanks again for the replies

I believe this was one of the first handguns HK brought into the country I passed up one of these about 20 years ago with all 4 barrels because I thought the price was too high. I look back now and think I should have bought it.

Tamara, the HSc was a Mauser 380 (I think also 32 but I'm not sure).

surfinUSA,

Tamara, the HSc was a Mauser 380 (I think also 32 but I'm not sure).

Actually, it was originally in .32. The HK4 is more or less a copy/update of the HSc. Unsurprising, since the founders of HK were former Mauser employees.

Thanks for the info. The HK4 and little Mauser were both pretty cool little guns. My friend's HSc, like so many other autos developed during the early part of the last century would only feed ball ammo. It fed that very well and accurately but would not take HP ammo so he sold it.

I've never seen another HK4 with all four barrels after I passed on the one mentioned earlier. Oh well another opertunity missed.

No doubt about it the HK4 is quite a gun. With multiple calibers it just gets better or does it? My son bought one for all the right reasons and just loved it. Then it broke and he contacted local gunsmiths to get it fixed. None could do it in Oregon/Washington. Then he sent it back to HK and they sent it back to him with a note saying that the gun was no longer in production and HK does not support it. That means no parts availability. Thats how it is with HK. Ask police departments about support for the MP5's now that HK is pushing the G36.

Yep anything essential breaks, its a paperweight....

Not only does HK not have parts, Jack First or Numrich dont have either...sol....

I'm not sure of the exact date, but I believe HK stoped making these almost 20 years ago. So its not very likely they will have parts.

Try the Gun Parts Corp. in West Hurley NY.

Previous to HK , H&R imported the Mauser produced HK4 for a short time . Yes , it says HK , but when it comes time to sell , they aren't an easy sell unless priced "right" . We have had several over the past several years . They don't bring Blue Book prices here in Ohio .

Also , if you are buying this for a shooter/carry gun , I would test fire it before buying . We have had a few function "issues" with them .

Just a couple thoughts .

There was a guy in Texas a few years ago that had acquired all the remaining spares for the HK4 from H&K USA. I don't remember his name, but maybe someone else does.....

If he still is around, he would be about the only source of spares for these cute little guns.

Years ago, a friend of mine bought an HK4 in .380 & .22. It was basically a cheap knock-off of the Mauser HSc. If I remember correctly, the frame was a bunch of sheet metal stampings, tack-welded together.

That HK4 was the ONLY pistol I've ever personally handled with a broken frame.

I remember shooting it in .22 (before I knew of the broken frame) and having it unexpectedly and unpredictably let off anywhere from 1 to 3 rounds with each squeeze of the trigger.

I didn't like it and don't recommend it. And H&K, like most German companies (Walther included) doesn't support old products once they're out of production.
