hi Im looking to get a pistol ive saved and used taxes wanting a high quality pistol reliabile and durable trying to decide between the H&K P30L or the Sig 226.Great reviews on both which would be best

10 years ago I would have said either one would be a pistol you could count on to save your life. Today, HK would be my choice.

Way too many complaints from Sig owners as of late.

I still love Sig and am torn between Hk and Sig. I own their rifles and pistols. It is hard to choose, either way your a winner, but I do like my HK's a bit more. They just have more fit and finish to me. But dang it would not matter which I grabbed in a pinch, both have proven to go bang everytime. So my advise, whichever fits you better.

My Dad owns a sig. I've never seen it have a failure that tap+rack+bang will fix. I've seen it have failures that require tools to fix. (That's plural). Once, part of the slide just fell off. Another time it had a FTE that left the casing stuck in the chamber (although the second one might be ammo).

That said, I would suggest HK if your choice is between HK and Sig. That said, remember that you don't need to spend the $$ on an HK if you want a high quality pistol. There are plenty of cheaper options that are still very good handguns.

Sig P226 9mm is my and my wifes go to gun for IDPA in SSP.

I have never had a problem with either of my p226, or my Sig 1911's

There was a small problem with my .40cal sp2022, but sig fixed it immediately.

I never shot HK's so I am coming from a biased point of view.

I love my sigs! all 6 of them.

be safe

That's a difficult choice, I think both are great guns.

But if you made me choose, I'd go with the HK.

I've got a P30 that I like a lot, the grip feels great and you can customize it to your hand. The decocker is in a great location IMHO and the controls are ambidextrous if that matters to you.

I was not an HK fan at all until I bought my P30, now I can't wait to add an HK45 to the collection.

I love the P30L, it's an incredible gun!

The Sig 226 is a great gun as well and I have owned several in my life. That said I sold my P30L a while back when I needed some money and I really miss it! The only thing I would say is that if you do go with a P30 do yourself a favor and get the version with the LEM trigger!

Years ago I would have said either one, but now hk is the way to go IMHO. If I ever get a sig again it will be a p226 tacops, those are some sweet pistols. But given a choice I would pick the p30. Most problems with sig nowadays I hear or see on the internet is cheap magazines they where shipping with their guns, checkmate if I recall. The p229 I had years ago was a go to war pistol

from what Ive read both high quality I hear of Sigs finish coming off and a few bad mags
I hear H&K has a more durable finish but a worse trigger

I own several of both brands but HK is my choice. The main reason I prefer HK over Sig are the controls. HK controls seem to be better suited to my hand and my dexterity. Add to that the eerily perfect grip the P30 has and I can say it's almost no contest IMHO. Either way though it's a "no-lose" purchase.

I've never shot a Sig I liked, and I've shot a few of them. There's nothing about Sigs I like. The P30 feels incredible in the hand, even before you start switching around grip panels. Yeah, go with the LEM trigger.

I like my P30 so much, I also bought an HK45 two weeks later.

There is no best between them but there could be a best for you and as TennJed said try out what you are considering and then make a decision.

I have a couple P226s and an HL P30L and they are both very top tier. If I could not keep both I would keep my P226s.

You can't go wrong with the classic P series SIGs new or old. For a new P226 my choice would be MK25 though any P226 is a world class pistol.

A review site on the P226 by those that own them or are issued them with currently 241 votes.

One nice thing about SIG is their CPO program -Certified Pre Owned where you can get like new SIGs in the $600 range.

Again try out what you are considering and then make your choice.

Good luck!!

I've shot both, but both of them only once. I would vote for the P30L as I like their controls and grip better. But if you like the feel of metal better, you may like the Sig. You hear people complain about the HK triggers some; I liked it but the Sig's was better.

You're probably not planning to carry this pistol, but if you are, I'd go with the P30L, as it's thinner and lighter.

I say SIG but im just more familiar with them and I've never found an HK that I loved. I've liked most of them but im a Sig fanboy.

I carry Sigs everyday. My only complaint is I have to polish the outer barrel chamber where the finish wears the first few shots. I have yet to have them fail me, and most likely in my lifetime won't.

I tend to like the little extra pride in fit and finish Hk does. I have seen a stock barreled Hk94 with over 200,000 rounds and still shoots great. Hk, IMHO makes the very best pistols and rifles that are mass produced. That being said Sig, to me could not be any closer in the running. I have been comparing the Sig 516 and the Hk 416. The Hk has far better barrel life but to be honest the Sig is the best AR bang for the buck.. So Sig or Hk, potatoes, patatoes... You will most likely be happy with either or. There handguns are well made..

Have owned a 229, 239 and a 2340 as well as a USP.40. All have been great guns, the H&k is the only gun I have ever owned that would not extract steel case ammo so it's gone. While that's no big deal to most it is to me, I like shooting cheap range ammo. Between the two, I much prefer the 226 over the H&K, though I have never owned either that you mention I have shot both a good bit. Just my opinion.

Both are excellent guns, but for me personally, I would lean more towards the Hk P30. The reason being is that I have never held a more comfortable pistol ever. I think that the P30 is ergonomic perfection. It feels like a part of your hand.

P30, no question. However, if this is a carry gun i'd highly recommend going with an LEM trigger. I have a P2000sk for carry and the DA pull is just way too long and heavy so converted mine to LEM.

Between the two I would choose the p226 (and have). However, that is because Sig pistols suit me better than HK pistols. YMMV. I've been carrying Sigs for the better part of two decades now. p228, p226, p229, p225, p220. Now eyeing the p227 carry. My p226 has been flawless. I prefer the smaller Sigs.

The one HK I really enjoy consistently is my old p7.

Both are world-class pistols. At the end of the day, its up to you to decide pistol feels right in your hand.
