Hello again.

What are some good options for carrying while jogging? My carry guns are:

Glock 26

Kel-Tec P3-AT

So far I have thought about belly bands and fanny packs. ( :uhoh: )

What are some other options? I don't like the idea of a fanny pack and I have heard the belly bands are a little uncomfortable.

I normally carry IWB, strong side ~ 4:00.

Thanks for tthe help.

Personally, I just go running at 7:00 AM. Criminals aren't up that early. ;)

To answer your question-- NAA 22M in the pocket with a folded sheet of notebook paper to break the outline. Even the Kel Tec P32 is too large in this case.

Before I followed the link, I was thinking of the The Wilderness' fanny-pack things. Even they are troublesome because they are black. If someone doesn't think its a gun, they will think its a case for something electronic, and therefore stealable.

And criminals do spot details more than I would have thought. I have recently heard that (in NYC) they are aware that white earbuds=iPod, so look for people with white headsets in dark alleys, and rob them of their 'pods. Yeep!

I also find it hard to even carry a knife, and can only carry my vanishingly-small phone when its in my hand (if I am on-call, etc.), which is not so much of a handgun option. Luckily, I trust my neighborhood. To defend myself at 6:30 am, I'd need something capable of immediately stopping all the cars running stop signs.

Concealable .50 Whisper is too much to ask, right?

Not huge, but could carry a little kel-tec.

Personally when I run I don't worry about being mugged or robbed. I'm only afraid of traffic and for that I wear a reflective belt. The way I've figured, is that a jogger typically doesn't carry a ton of cash or a wallet. The most they have will be a discman or a walkman....which are dirt cheap now a days. The only thing that might cause me a little inkling of fear would be getting tire ironed by a passing car full of teenagers...and there is no gun that will protect you from that. Joggers just don't present good targets of opportunity because we are moving, don't have anything of any real value, and probably in good enough physical shape to kick the crap out of the mugger. Now if I was a woman I'd worry about the whole rape thing, but as a guy I am fortunate enough not to worry about that.

Now, when I bike it's another story. My bike is worth a lot of money...and last year I didn't have a CCW or a handgun for that matter, and I would carry a CRKT M16 in a handlebag or in a front pocket of my shorts. This year, I might bring my Steyr M9 in the handlebag...or if I get one by then a kel-tec or other small pistol. There has been incidents on the greenways around Indy of people getting knocked off....I'm not afraid of little punks...I'm pretty big and can hold my own against punks...its the thugs in the new sections of greenways that worry me.

There was a thread like this not too long ago and one of the posts linked to someone making a chest-rig similar to the BHI catastrophe, only it was head and shoulders above it in appearance and function. Wish I could recall where that fella is......

Anyhow, the belly band is a good option depending on the size and weight of your pistol. Another option is a shoulder holster under a sweatjacket.

Good Points.:)

I like the armband thing. Now I need to pry the Kel-Tec out of my wifes hands. Can these MP3 things handle a 1911

I do not worry about the 2-legged varmints. However, it is getting warmer and I will be putting some time in running through the wilds of Utah (actually, I live in the wilds way away from people :) ). I AM worried about getting drug down by a mountain lion:mad: or pestered by some coyotes :( I do have something that they want: Hot Meal :uhoh:

I have a neat little waistpack made by Eastsport that I got from Wal-mart. It has a zippered pocket in the back (where my CCW/ID is stored) and an zippered front pocket (my NAA Guardian .380 and nothing else). This arrangement works out well for me. I don't think I could try putting a heavier gun in it, though - too much bouncing around.

Running with handgun

I run all the time with a glock 23, and a belly band holster. Comfortable and secure. Can not reholster in a hurry but very concealable.

Mr. Mysterious,

How do you handle large dogs? They typically don't care how much money you're carrying.

Skofnung;

I don't suppose you'd care to start bicycling instead? That would open up some options to you & still allow the exercise without the impact.

Indy has some pretty strict dog laws...I haven't seen many loose. If I was to be attacked by one and my foot didn't work, or banging my walkman against it's head didn't work, or me poking it's eyes out didn't work...I guess that I would be pretty much screwed.

Now you've probably jinxed me and next time I run I'll get chased....might start having to carry a ken onion or crkt with me now to give me better odds ;) I could probably clip one to the back of my shorts pretty easily.

Mysterious,

I often do the same. If I don't carry a gun I at least carry a knife on the waist band, however I recently lost my only decent carry knife. It hasn't been an issue though because I've been running at the gym and so far I haven't seen any dogs on the treadmill next to me. *fingers crossed*

I carry my Kahr P9 in a "Tunebelt" designed to carry a CD Player. You could even wear headphones and run the cord into the pouch if you really wanted to go into stealth mode.

How about a shirt that says...."I jogging for my health, carry NO MONEY and have a very large gun that I can shoot very well" on the front and on the back "AAARRRFFF AARRRFFF, GGGRRRR GRRRRR, AAARRFF" which translated says the same thing in Dog Speak! :D

Sorry, Im drinking my coffee and my sense of humor is in the cup somewhere.......

Youve gotten alot of good advice thus far.....being a holster maker I really cant help you personally....but some of the products mentioned should work for you.

Shoot well.

Until somebody comes out with a P32-sized gun that is reliable, pepper spray might be the best option.

Spray is an invaluable tool. Not just for dogs, but for people as well. If we were to be a tad more pragmatic, we may find that its probability of being effective is equal to or greater than most small-caliber pistols. Of course, when spray fails people don't haul ***. Even if a .32 doesn't hit the CNS, people still have a tendancy to get out of dodge with as much haste as they can muster after the first "bang."

The above comments do no apply to ninja hit squads or nocturnal mutant bears.

7.62,
I don't know if I would have had time to nick the dog that got me with a blade. He got in close and behind me got me a good one in the rear and then the owner got him away. It took a half mile an a little sweat in the punctures to let me know he broke the skin. If I had a pistol I would have prevented him from getting close enough to do any damage. If you try the armband let me know how it works. I have tried to cary while running. I just cant run with a waistpack bouncing on my leg for 6 miles every morning. I tried with a beretta m 21 .22 cal and it still buged the crap out of me. Now I watch for trees to climb. Shoot.. I might have to buy one of those armbands and try it myself.

Mike

Whenver I get a p32 or a P3a2 I might try to sew my own armband to carry it in. I have imagined the following:

Velcro strap, a form fitting trigger cover, and a cover that will cover it and secure it...probably made of velcro to keep it tight. The back that is against the skin would be waterproof so that the sweat wouldn't leech in.

I see no reason why the arm CD pocket will not work for the Kel-Tec. The P3AT is so light that you should hardly notice it. If you use a CD player on the other side, it should balance out. :D

I am seriouslt considering the "executive" bellyband thing mentioned above so I can carry something larger than a poddle gun. :uhoh:

Pricey, but I am thinking some alternative thoughts about other situations so I may as well try it. :scrutiny:
