If they get past those, I fix the bayonet on my Mosin-Nagant and teach them about what makes the green grass grow.
Hmm, I'm thinking a weapon with a bayonet would scare someone enough to turn and run. If that doesn't do it by itself it might help to have the person holding it to be screaming the answers to the following questions until his eyes bulge out:
"What makes the grass grow"
"What makes the flowers grow"
and "What is the spirit of the bayonet"
The answers at Ft. Jackson in late '89 and early '90 were: "Blood, blood, blood makes the grass grow", "Guts, guts, guts make the flowers grow", and "To kill, to kill, to kill without mercy" screamed at the top of your lungs.
Seriously now, my "arsenal" is:
-several knives (3 defensive folders, an outdoor type folder and a bowie knife)
-a 3 D cell Maglite (blunt force weapon if needed)
-2 canisters of pepper spray
-one or two of several guns are loaded and ready (the Taurus 85 is almost always one of them, and often/usually on my person when in the house)
-an SKS, unloaded but with 10-20 loaded stripper clips nearby (for the totally unexpected).
Guns that are usually in the rotation:
-Colt Police Posititive Special in .38spl. It is reliable, reasonably accurate and it was cheap so if taken as evidence if used in a self defense shooting I won't be out much if it doesn't come back or if it gets messed up. This is used (due to not being much of a loss) about 80-90% of the time.
-S&W 65LS (usually loaded with +Ps). I love this gun.
-Charles Daly 1911
-CZ 75B
-very rarely my Bersa Thunder .380 is in the Taurus' place. It is a good gun, it is accurate, it is reliable, but I just like the snub better (wow, I never thought I would have said something like that- especially after my Taurus 605 which was too heavy and no fun to shoot).
I no longer use my S&W 586 or 19 for HD use. Good guns, but I'd hate to lose them if collected as evidence and then lost or broken (of course several of my guns that I use I'd hate to lose just as much- esp. the 65LS, CZ and Daly).
Soon to come:
Either a shotgun, .223 carbine (Mini-14 most likely), or .357 or .44mag lever carbine to take the place of the SKS. I need a long gun that is more suited to the more probable home defense situations.
