What would be a great arsenal (limit 5)

I agree with a 22 lr pistol and rifle, both are great for practice and cheap on ammo.
I agree with the 12 gauge with multi barrels and a bolt action rifle in like 270 or 30-06.
Finally_ for a new owner_ I'd suggest a wheel gun in 357 or 45LC.

If you don't like my 2 cents, you have 30 days left for a full refund.

Pretty much all i have now:

Big pistol: FNP9
Small Pistol: PF9
Long Range: Rem700 Var .308
Medium: RRA AR15
Short: Rem 870 12ga

I'll vote with Gamera. Perhaps it's time for some members here to consider learning nuances of the gunny's standard lexicon.

Five firearms constitute a modest collection.

Five is a handful, not an arsenal. Don't let the bad guys and antis dictate the words you use.

I don't like the question. 5 guns do not equal an arsenal. I hate the term, and feel it degrates our position.

1. Glock Model 23
2. .38 Special Wheel Pistols
3. Remington 30-06
4. Mossberg 500 tactical Persuader
5. Maybe a .50 muzzleloader?

Arsenal?

Not to be a wet blanket, but "arsenal" is typical hyperbole (exaggeration, overstatement) that's used by the media to frighten folks and characterize people who have adequate stocks of weapons and ammo as "crazy."

Here is an aerial view of an arsenal. My dad worked here. It's in Alabama.

. . . and another . . .

I understand the word is used in fun.

You should also have a grasp of what an actual arsenal is and the scale of such a thing.

When the media goes off on one of it's "Mr. Jones had an entire arsenal of firearms" rants, you'll be able to appreciate the magnitude of the lie.

"Don't like the word arsenal...?....degrates our position....?"

arsenal/ A dockyard; public establishment to store arms, ammunition, etc., for military an naval use; ANY repository OR collection of weapons.

Who cares what bad guys or anti's think is politically correct.

Perspective

No need to take it too seriously.

Just trying to provide a little perspective.

You know, like the difference between your reloading bench and "OMG! He's got an ammo factory!"

Around here, just between us girls, if you wanna call it an arsenal, we all understand it's all in fun.

Knock yerself out.

Some people, though, don't actually have a point of reference other than what's provided by the media.

So now those folks will have some idea of scale.

Remember, not all of us are old farts who've actually been to these places.

61chalk: Actually, I care.

The reason I care is that, for the past twenty-some years at least, the antis and the MSM have chosen the language to describe firearms. Those choices have been solely intended to either demonize firearms or instill fear on the part of the general public.

The time has come to take that issue back, using terms, concepts, and definitions that are part of the standard lexicon. That's why I posted that comment, and why you'll also see me usually jump in when someone talks about "assault weapons" or misuses the term 'assault rifle.'

The more accurate we are, the better the correct language and concepts will reinforce firearms as a positive feature of the American (US) experience. Precision in language is a desired characteristic; it's not an issue of political correctness.

1. Remington or Mossburg 12 gauge pump, 21" barrel . Hunting birds, squirrels, home defense.

2. Glock 30. Concealed carry and home defense.

3. Remington bolt action rifle in 300 win short mag/ Leupold glass. Hunting any big game on this continent, light, easy to carry.

4. Smith and Wesson 357 magnum. Hunting small to medium game, home defense. Can plink with 38's, or load full power 357 mag-very versatile.

5. SA58 FAL 308 battle rifle. Balls to the wall battle rifle for when/if the poop hits the oscillator.

There you go, I can hunt anything, defend the home, and defend while out and about in town.

Heavy barrel, scoped, Ruger 10/22
Smith & Wesson 686
Remington 12 gauge 870 with a 21" turkey barrel with choke tubes, and a rifled, scoped slug barrel
Short barrel, flat top AR15
M1 Rifle

-10/22 rifle
-AR-15 in 6.5 or 6.8 mm (take care of the deer gun and semi-auto in one package)
-Remington 870 w/ replaceable barrels.
-CZ Rami in 9mm for carry, yet still decent capacity.
-FNP, or H&K for a full sized .45.

If I could keep just five

They would be:
1) My Glock 23 40 S&W with spare barrel for 357 Sig for HD/SD
2) One of my Ar-15s for HD SHTF small game
3) My 870 HD shotgun HD and hunting
4) My Savage Model 12 BVSS in 223 with spare barrels hunting/long range
5) This one is tough maybe because I have quite a few to choose from. My choices are a second Glock, my 1911(which I love), another of my Savages, my Saiga 7.62x39 or my Marlin 22 take-down. I think, by the smallest of margins that the Marlin would be my choice for practice and small game.

1. CZ 75 in your choice of calibers plus .22 LR conversion kit. (could do this with other also).
2. A high quality .22 LR Rifle (I like Marlin and especially the CZ 452 series)
3. Bolt action rifle in .308 or .30-06. You now have most game covered in North America.
4. .357 Mag Revolver. Versatile: hunting, self-defense, etc.
5. .357 Mag. Lever Action Carbine. For home defense or hunting.

I know, I know no shotgun. I'm just not a huge shotgun person. :)

1) Shotgun

2) .22lr rifle

3) Centerfire handgun

4) Centerfire rifle

5) Your pick - I'd probably go with a .22lr handgun

Platforms, makes, models and whatnot... up to you.

.22 rifle of what ever choice you like, I have no favorite, for plinking
Remington 870 28" barrel, good for birds and some varmits
M1A .308, for medium to large game
Remington 870 18" barrel, for the two legged critters
Springfield 1911, for..............why wouldn't you want one?

imo -

12 gauge pump shotgun with open choke and extra barrel for hunting
ar-15 with sturdy barrel
bolt action 30.06
1911 .45 cal pistol
Glock 19 9mm or Glock 21c .45 cal pistol

Was really hard to omit a wheelgun though.

I am in a position where I have to prioritize because as much as I would LIKE to have a varied, nuanced arsenal, I'm on a budget, and I have to narrow it down to what I need. BUT, at the same time, I have also recently reflected, that even if I were rich and I could carry anything I wanted to, I would still spend most of my time with this core arsenal.

Rem 870 express synthetic. Both full-length and tactical barrels.)
Kimber Custom II 1911 (With .22 conversion kit.)
S&W (Howa) Model 1500 in .270, which I happened into for free.
Yugo SKS which I tapcoed and techsighted.
Inland M-1 Carbine

I also have a Nylon 66 .22 rifle, but I consider it mostly for the kids. My dad has a more extensive collection including a lot of bolt rifles for hunting and varminting. But this collection more than covers my needs and level of shooting skill.

A few things on my wish list include; matched custom-built Mausers or Remingtons in at least three different calibers to cover a full variety of ranges, from 22-250 to something in the magnum family, A 4" Python in good shape, and I just fount the STI Perfect 10, which is something I would normally snort at for the high price tag, but in this case, a 6" well built 10mm sounds VERY appealing. I don't know if I'll ever have $2k to drop on something like that.

I will answer with my opinion...starting with category, followed by an example.

One .22 LR rifle (Ruger 10-22 or Glenfield Model 60)
One shotgun (Remington M-870)
One centerfire rifle (Remington M-700 in 30.06)
One all-round handgun (S&W M-66)

One discretionary pistol or rifle to fill in any blanks missed (my choice would be a 1911)

Strongly disagree with a .22 pistol - that's a fun gun. A rifle is for hunting & self-defense, in any caliber.

Just five, eh?

1. Shotgun (pump or semi), 12 ga. Preferably with 2 barrels (one hunting & one self-defense).
2. Rifle, rimfire - turnbolt, lever, pump or semi, .22lr
3. Defensive & multi-purpose handgun, preferably in 9x19, .38 super, 9x23, 10mm, .45 acp., .44 spec., .357mag, or .45 colt. Can be revo or semi pistol.
4. Centerfire rifle in "full powered" bottlenecked caliber, preferably a turnbolt - anywhere from .243 to .30-06.
5. .50 cal muzzleloader; preferably a Savage 10ML, if legal in your state to use for hunting (if hunting is included), OR a combo target & self-defense rifle - an AR15 or similar with a 20" HB, in 5.56x45mm / .223 rem (if hunting is not included)
