Hornady ezject issue.

I have the newer version LNL AP with the Ez-ject case ejection system. I currently only have shellplates #1 & #6. They list 2 shell plates for the .45 acp, plate #1 which fits a host of other calibers as well,or plate #45 which is .45 acp ONLY. I loaded 1000 .38 specials with no issues, but it will not eject the 45's. I am not sure if maybe I need the 45 only plate? I polished the ejecter a little but no diff. The case gets pushed out about 1/8 of an inch and then tilts and jamms the plate. Any ideas? other than this I love this thing.

Don't polish the ejector, polish the shellplate where it holds the case. The slicker, the better. All gain should be found here. This also may be why they offer a 45ACP ONLY shellplate.

Polish them real good. This is a 9MM plate, but it shows where I polished it. Polish the sharp lower edge as well.

Thanx jeepmor, I'll give that a try. I tried to call Hornady before I posted this, but they are closed till jan 5th, so I dont know about the acp only plate yet.

My #1 shell plate works fine, and mine isn't even polished, but some have had issues and Hornady came out with a dedicated .45 shell plate. I do not know what the difference is.

The #45 shell plate has a larger radius and is unnecessary in my opinion.
I use a polished #1 shell plate and it works perfect now but when it was new it would fail to eject about 50% of the time.
The shiny areas on the shell plate in Walkalong's photo shows exactly where you need to polish. I use 800 and 2000 grit emery paper wrapped around the edge of an old credit card (it's automotive paper available a Walmart).
A jeweler's loupe makes it easy to see the burrs and toolmarks that need to be smoothed-out.

Just got the LNL AP also and the only shellplate that I have so far is the #45. It ejects flawlessly without polishing.

I just got a LNL AP w/ezject from Natchez and they sent shell plate #1 for reloading 45 ACP. Well guess what, It would not eject the loaded round without flat out binding the press. I have in my hands #45 and it works like a charm. The ezject system is one sweet cookie. To say the least.
To make ones life much easier when reloading 45 ACP, do your self a favor and use shell plate #45.

Guess I'm not alone... Another brand new 'ezject' LNL here with the useless #1 plate for .45ACP.

I polished the crap out of the plate and modified it the underside a bit. No dice. That thing just isn't going to work. The ezject "tab" on the subplate is too short and lets the beveled base of the ACP brass ride up and wedge between the shellplate and the ezject tab on the baseplate. Gouges the hell out of the brass too.... Nice...

Of course nobody stocks the #45 shellplate so I guess I get to wait until Jan 5th when the Hornady crew gets back in. Then I figure we'll be in line with about 1000 others!

They need to yank .45ACP off their charts for the #1 shellplate. Why would they have both listed? Oh, and I'm not paying for the #45, they can have this #1 plate piece of crap back.

Here's a tidbit I learned during a conversation with the folks at Hornady...
If something is out of stock everywhere, don't order it from Hornady because they will fill all the orders/backorders for the retailers first before filling any direct orders placed with them. So just put in a backorder at Midwayusa and you probably won't have to wait too long.

Keep checking that link and soon it will show an expected arrival date. My experience with Midway is that the product usually shows up before their expected arrival date. Don't wait to order it after it arrives, by putting in a backorder you get in line to get filled. Also, you can count on Midway to ship the same day the product arrives. (I have no affiliation with Midway, just a VERY happy customer)

Here's another thing I learned about getting products in a timely manner...
Packages CAN and will get lost or at least delayed in shipping. Midways policy is that a product has to be missing for 14 days before they will do anything about unless it was sent by one of the guaranteed methods (overnight, UPS second day etc) I discovered this the hard way when my LNL AP was shipped by Priority mail. There's no tracking with Priority so I had to wait when it failed to show up on time. Fortunately, it finally did show up after about 8 days. Other retailers have even longer waiting periods before declaring a package lost, for example Midsouth is 30 Days!

I've ordered a LOT of stuff over the last several months from Midway and various other online retailers, frankly I'm amazed that nothing was lost and the LNL AP was the only thing that arrived more than a day later than expected. But if I need something in timely fashion, Priority is not the best choice simply because there's no tracking, no guarantee an if lost, you gotta wait.

OK, I finally got some time to work on the shellplate. Polishing really helped a lot but did not fix completely. I had to dremel the sharp corners off the raised section between the spring groove and the ezject groove. Once I got those rounded a little I polished those up and it now functions flawlessly.

While I really dont like the fact that some of us have had to 'doctor up' some of these plates I am glad to know how/what to do to fix 'em.

I am also still really pleased with the performance of this press.

So you got the #1 plate to work? Could you post some pics or describe exactly what you did? I've spent a good hour and polished the hell out of the slots and lightly filed off the sharp edges underside the plate to no avail.... Did you polish the press subplate/ezject tab at all or just the shell plate?

I would only try and use the #1 shell plate if I were in dyer needs. I tried the #1 plate and it flat out jammed the press up every time. I was one of the lucky ones that received a #45 shell plate last week directly from Hornady.
Trust me, the #45 plate installed and the press works like a charm.

I have a question on this new system?I was wondering if you could not do this yourself by cutting out the shellplate?Do any of you have a good pic of the plates and the hub?Hornady is charging a $100 for the upgrade are they not?Just curious.I know the hub is hard and brittle but with the proper tools maybe?

Received the new Hornady catalog in the mail today. I noticed that the #1 shellplate NO longer lists .45 ACP.

I do not believe Hornady "promotes" the use of the #1 shell plate for 45 ACP any more. They say the #45 shell plate is for 45 ACP, apparently they have had too many complaints on the #1 shellplate and .45 that they are now only recomending the #45 plate for use with .45 ACP.
