Just came back from the gun range with my father and pulled into the hotel to find a whole slew of people, men, standing around in the parking lot. We've been here for two, three weeks and maybe one week more (God willing, we might move into the condo after Wednesday if all is ready). Anyway, we couldn't figure if it was a prayer session or what as I couldn't hear what they were saying. They were gathered in a circle and their cars/vans were blocking the enterance. We got out and went to our room and later my father went to update our key so it'd work (we just noticed it). The girl at the desk was all nervous. They weren't customers - just eating the candy at the front desk and letting the kids play with the hotel carriers outdoors. They were loud and swearing and she was obviously concerned for her safety and called the hotel manager. My father advised her to call the police if they didn't leave.

It gave me a good feeling that I didn't send all my guns up to my brother's and kept my Berettas, the Single Six, and the model 60 with me while staying at the hotel. I wanted something for the range trips as I knew I'd go stir crazy but I also wanted to keep something handy for times like this - which I didn't think would really happen. Thank God I got personal protection ammo for the Berettas and the model 60 before we checked in. To me, this all illustrates that bad things can happen quick and why it's always best to be armed for those unexpected visitors. I'll sleep well tonight knowing my guns are close.

I would suggest that you call the police. If they are not guests and have no other legitimate reason to be there, they are tresspassing. The girl at the desk may be afraid to over-react or worse, she may be under orders not to call the police. Many hotels and entertainment businesses are reluctant to call the police. They don't want the possible bad PR of having cop cars all over the complex. If she works for one of these blissninnies she could be fired for calling the cops.

I'm not defending that attitude, I think it's stupid. I'm just telling it like it is.

I'm sure she's under restraint not to call, which puts her in danger, but fortunately they left and haven't been back. If we see them, we'll call so she won't be in that position. My mother heard the commotion and looked outside to see what was going on. Hopefully, they'll keep driving through to the next state.

Mastrogiacomo, considering what MikeIsaj said, why didn't you or your father call the police for her? Surely neither of you would get in any trouble.

He didn't call because they left shortly after he spoke with the girl. We have a clear view of the parking lot so if they lingered, we would have called but it wasn't necessary. We probably showed up shortly before they decided to take off - thankfully.

Perhaps it was the Million Moms March stopping for a restroom break and letting the kids stretch their legs?

I saw only guys - some well dressed and others not so. Didn't see any women but I'm sure they had to be there given the kids. My guess is that were just rude, loud, and taking advantage of the hotel staff while passing through.

Hi All-

Just don't leave your guns unattended in a hotel/motel room. About a zillion people can have unfettered access.

That was my concern. I keep them in a case locked up but it doesn't mean someone can't just walk away with it. Fortunately, my parents are always in the room when I'm out at work and I'm here when they're out. Not the best arrangement I admit but being a federal employee and Mass resident, I can't take them to work or leave them in the trunk of my car. Hopefully, we'll be out of here this week - God willing...
