I voted rifle. I don't know how you want conversions to be counted. I have a .22lr conversion for my Glock (complete 'upper'), but it isn't a gun unto itself.
I own a couple of each and have bought and sold several over the years as well. I think they are not only fun (and inexpensive) but great to teach/learn with and a whole lot more fun to practice the fundimentals with. Much more fun than dry firing any day.
I own more 22 firearms than any other cartridge. They get pulled out more often then the centerfires even though I reload and cast. I don't feel bad and start adding up the cost when I blow through a brick in one session. Everyone needs one.
Seems like a no-brainer to me in this day and age of high ammo and fun factor. At least one pistol and a rifle should be everybody's " gotta have " arsenal.
I own several. (3) Ruger 10/22's, cz 452, winchester 60, (2) 22/45's and a Walther p22. I shoot the pistols and the CZ a lot. Two of the 10/22's are NIB Talo guns.
Anyone who actually shoots regularly will have a 22lr gun (or a lot of disposable income)
Last time I counted, there were as many 22 s/lr/wmr guns as everything else put together... They're fun and cheap to shoot, not having a couple rimfire guns is the market of the fudd or mall-ninja
Ruger 10/22 LR
Marlin 60 LR
Remington Nylon Mohawk, clip fed LR
Marlin 783 .22 Mag
All the kids learned basic marksmanship with pellets guns then moved up to the 22's and then on to .243. After that they were on thier own as far as calibers went.
I have 4 .22 rifles and a pistol. All 3 of my kids have a .22 rifle of thier own. There are several more to come soon, definately needed a "I have a plethora of 22's" option.
