Well you should compare it locally.

What is the best price all said done locally?

What is your GB price total with shipping, FFL transfer, tax, etc?

$20 either way is no biggie, but when the swing is $50+, well then you are into some real money....almost a box of ammo or two :neener::D

I can't find any locally to compare with, that's really the only reason I bought online. $450 gun + $15 shipping + $35 transfer and no tax.

Locally, shop about 20 miles away:

Ruger SR40 Compact-----------------------------------------$399.00

We have ~9% sales tax (and yes the FFL takes the tax on out of state GB purchases) So OTD here $435.

If your ffl is charging you tax on your out of state purchases then you probably get a new ffl, your getting waxed.

Guess it varies state by state. So it looks like you guys are better off buying local then.

Whoa...hold the phone.

FFL fee...plus tax? What the hell?

WA isn't that cool. That's why they based Twilight there.

Except something special. I do buy from GB, don't get me wrong. I bought my S&W 1006, Sig P229, Colt Rail Gun, Camp 9 and Camp 45 (all pre banic) and just bought two CZ-82's from GB. They were all low enough prices to be worth it. All the rest of my guns I bought local over the years. We have some good small FFL's and some excellent places like Rainer Arms, and LowPriceGuns.com.

I'm now looking for a Springfield M1A. GB prices are crazy! Local are better.

On state sales tax, they call it "use tax". Even if you buy something in another state, if you use it here, pay the sales tax rate.

So check this out - this tax applies to anything - cars, stereos, anything you buy on the web or whatever from another state. And the DOR really watches businesses. So I asked the auditor why they don't collect the tax from individuals for ALL out of state purchases? First answer: People would revolt! Second answer: tough to collect. So the DOR hits businesses and firearms and such-a captive trapped audience to tax.

Also of interest: Other states with sales tax do this and most people don't know it and the states don't push it too hard.

Like I said, Twilight.
