I was looking for extra magazines for my USP. I found some Promag magazines for really cheap. Anyone have experience with them?
Thanks

Depends on the pistol. I bought some for my wife's ruger p90 that have been flawless. On the other hand I got some for my Desert Eagle that didn't even fit right in the gun and did not lock into the mag release.

Friends don't let friends, buy Pro Mag!

I have never met a Pro Mag magazine, that I liked! All the Pro Mags that I own, have been filled with lead and turned into training mags.

If you don't buy either Factory or Mec-Gar (they make a lot of factory mags) magazines, you will kick yourself later.

Depends on the gun.

I have had good luck with hi-cap Beretta mags and dismally with H&K P7M8 and Sig mags. THe H&K mags would self-eject from the force of the recoil and my Sig mags had incorrectly-drilled mag-catch holes.

I bought a couple for a little .380 I had, and they were great. Fit well and functioned well. Nice materials.

But I've heard both ways about them... some are good, some aren't.

YMMV

I've had good service from Pro-Mags for a CZ-75B, a Beretta 96, and a S&W 669.

The springs seem to lose their life faster than Mec-Gars, and the plastic baseplates will likely wear out/break. (But Pro-Mag will replace them, free, without questions.)

I recently bought some EAA Witness mags made by Pro-Mag and they have metal base plates and seem quite good...

I think it depends on the model of gun you buy them for...

Normally I would say "STAY AWY FROM PROMAGS!" But, a buddy gave me a Promag for my USP 45. You know what, it works pretty well...no problems so far & it has become a regularly ued range mag. I will agree w/ the statement that it probably really depends on the mag & the pistol. For the USP 45, it seems to be fine ;)

I had a 10 round Promag for my Kel-Tec P11 that functioned flawlessly, then bought another for my Beretta Tomcat and Bobcat. Both of those worked fine too. No problems whatsoever. That being said, I bought a couple pre-ban standard capacity (15 rnd) promags for a S&W 915 and Beretta 92F. Neither of those mags worked worth a crap and were quickly turned into range-only mags. But even then I had enough problems to scrap 'em all together.

from my experience, you question should be "How bad are Promag mags?". I found them to be junk, a total waste of money..

These mags do range a bit in quality. I had a Desert Eagle mag that was beautiful, and the old steel lined Glock hicaps were really nice. All of them have crummy springs, but work great once replaced.

I seems like their older stuff was better. Also, most of their single column mags are bad(?)

If I were you I'd buy the HK mags, preferably used. HK mags will count toward your guns resale, Promags will not. Good factory mags shouldn't wear out.

See my post http://www.thehighroad.org//showthread.php?s=&threadid=26169&highlight=promag

If you can handle the risk of having to pay a couple bucks postage to ship them back, they have a lifetime warranty and at least in my case the company went way outta the way to make sure that when they sent the mags back.. they'd work. He even said they'd issue a call-tag if they had to come back again.

I prefer not having the hassle, but they did fix the problem.

Pro Mag quality is the worst, from what I have seen, but by the law of averages they occasionally produce a mag that works. The only aftermarket mags I have are three ss USA hi-caps for my Ruger 9MMs. They have worked well. But I stick to factory and Mec Gar mags as much as possible.

ProMag standard cap (13 round) mags work fine in my 9mm BHP. I completed a class - somewhere around 1200 rounds - using four ProMags exclusively.

Exactly ZERO problems of any sort.

I've continued to use them since, with the same results - ZERO problems.

I guess it really DOES depend on the pistol.

"I consider the ProMags to be in the low end of the quality range, just one notch above USA Magazines!"

OUCH, OH thats hurt! The ultimate slam! :barf:

Actually , the Promags Ive had have functioned well, just been out of tolerance dimensionally.....oh well.

USA MAGS ARE A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shoot well

Guess I'm in the Promags suck(make that SUCK!!!!) camp here----bought one for a S&W 908----would barely seat on the mag catch---really had to force it.-------and then would never feed a single round----this is a single stack gun----how hard can it be???

No problems at all with the three for my CZ-75B or the three for my BHP. They all work just fine compared to factory, Mec-Gar, KRD and the stainless BHP mags from Numrich.

These are the only Pro-Mags I've tried though.

To be fair, the only Pro-Mags I own are full cap Glock 17 mags. When I first got my G17 I fell for the cheap full caps ($30.00), what a waste of money.
