How Hard to Hit Target with Short Range scope at 1000 yards

C'mon guys. That 1000 yard group is so obviously BS that it's needless to say. My guess is that the grandmother is the WWII sniper and the lady is proud to be connected to a woman of accomplishment. Again, it is pretty clear that the lady wants to impress the OP and isn't above fibbing a little to accomplish that. I know this is the High Road and all that, and that lying is bad, but is this really that big a deal?

I once had a nice looking girl tell me she could get me a full-auto MP5 If I wanted it. She had NO IDEA that what she was suggesting was illegal (here in California). She knew a LEO who had one and she thought she could just buy it from him and give it to me. Now, while in a perfect world, that is exactly how easy a firearms transaction should be, that isn't currently the world we live in.

I also once had another woman tell me she had "a machinegun (AK-47) stored out-of-state". She promised to let me shoot it, too! While I believe she might have access to an semi-auto AK, I highly doubt she (legally or otherwise) had one with the happy switch.

Yet another time, a young lady told me she was related to a famous action movie star.

My point is, sometimes people try to talk themselves up in an attempt to impress someone they are attracted to. I think this mystery is solved.

BTW, don't mean to suggest I am a lady's man or anything, as even a blind squirrel can find a nut, and I have to add that I have no idea whatsoever why women think they can make me happy by giving me full-auto toys. No idea at all.

Ive known a few women over the years like that, they lie like a rug to impress you, and all the while they dont know what the heck they are talking about. Heck until recently my wife referred to my AR as "the machinegun" because of its appearance basically. Many people are primarily drawn to conclusions by appearances intially, until they learn to associate something in other ways, or until educated on a subject or person.
Several exs a friend has had were famous big talkers about their shooting ability, firearm knowledge, and experience, until he became educated on firearms, then it stopped misteriously. One even convinced him to buy another brand of handgun, but he regretted not getting the glock I suggested instead (he got a sig instead).

I do start to have a problem when I fire the second round

That first round was dead on, the other four were called flyers.

What is a short range scope? Experience tells me that 1,000+ yard shooting favors a really good 17-20x scope (USO and S&B are really good scopes) and a 25x scope doesn't hurt. I can hit inside a man sized target at a measured 1,000 yards with a 2-7 Vari-XIII on my old Rem700 .308 heavy varmint barrel with Black Hills 175's but there is a lot of guesstimation involved for that first shot. But to shoot a 1.57" group with the posted stick and glass? NFW!

i have shot my 1903 (origional model made at springfield) to 600 meters, i shoot a 150gr at 2700 fps, and it isnt terribly hard, the ladder style elevation sights on old springfields are very accurate, so its doable, but 4cm is BULL $*^&

and 8x isnt reallly short range scope, i have used my 12x leupold to 600+ on woodchucks and steel plates, ive never shot at 1000 though, but i do know a lot of people use 10x scopes for that to avoid mirage.

people have hit man sized targets at 1k without a scope. The 8x should be capable. now... 4cm (less than 2 inches) is a whole different whale to swollow.
