Well *I'm* about annoyed.

You might recall that I recently purchased a Union Switch and Signal 1911A1 that will be the pride of my meager collection. I've been very excited about it, bouncing off the walls around the house waiting to get it.

I'm waiting to get it, of course, because even though I have all manner of guns that the Gov already knows about, and of course people are running amok knocking over stop and robs with vintage WWII pistols, there's the ten day wait on it.

So I'm waiting my ten days like a good boy.

Until today, when the dealer I bought it from called to advise me that the DOJ had canceled my DROS because I had bought another handgun within thirty days.

Now, I have in fact bought another handgun within thirty days. I bought it from Turners on consignment, and as we know, private party sales are exempt from the thirty day limit, otherwise auctions and gun shows would be pretty boring. Turners however, pretty much F-d me by doing the paperwork as if it was a dealer sale.

So.

Now, I get to wait until the 20th to file, pay another $25, and wait until the 30th to get my new safe queen, 15 days later than I had expected it. :fire:

Vent vent vent.....mumble...stupid. GAH!

That Sucks.. CA has some many gun laws that sometimes even the shops get confused.

I love Turners.. got a near mint P220R for $600 :)

I feel bad for you. On the bright side, at least you still have one coming! (Which is better than me...) Now I feel bad for me.

I'd never NEVER buy a weapon from Turners.
1. Customer Service stinks. No one is ever around to help.
2. Employees don't know the difference between an XD and a Glock.
3. Everything is out of stock.
4. And they just plain stinks.

Not sure I understand this part ? If the gun was a consignment gun from another person and handled through Turners , they would not have a choice but to run it through their books as a regular sale - that's the law , and private party sales exemption would not apply .

I would talk to the manager and ask for some compensation for the DROS money. Maybe a couple boxes of ammo to keep you happy or something else that you might need.

I feel your pain with Turners, I went in to buy a stock there one day, saw an employee looking through a catalog and said "excuse me"... His response led me to yell many :cuss: at him and walked out :fire: To make the whole issue funny, my dad was waiting for me to come back to his place with the stock. He called and asked where I was and I told him the story. He went back the next day to pick up the stock, he handed the clerk at the checkout stand $100 and she gave him back $92. So we got a $60 stock for $8 and still laugh about it to this day.:D

I hate Turner's. Incompetent fools. I've had nothing but trouble with them - I'm a permanent resident (ie. non-citizen) and they had NO CLUE how to handle it (hint: it's not that different). They wanted bills going back 6 months from 3 different utilities, etc etc. (MUCH more than required by law).

Needless to say, their prices are usually good, but I'll probably never buy from there again after my last experience.

Now you want to talk about a GOOD gun shop....ADE's is where it's at!! :D

That may be a DOJ problem as well. When a consignment DROS is done there is a 30 day exemption block. When it is checked it will automatically exempt you from the 30 days from the last transaction, but future ones sometimes get overlooked.

Call the DOJ at the number on the rejection notice and see if there is something to be done. They can often fix things still inside the ten day wait.

As an expatriot of California (a great place prior to the P.Wilson Administration) I almost got a job at Turners. I used to work for B&B Sales before they went belly up. I would have never treated you guys like that.

The gunlaws in California keep getting more ridiculous, the Penal code keeps getting thicker with these nutcase non sensical laws. I finally had enough and moved to 'Vegas.

Not all Turners are equal

I only go to the Signal Hill store, well, did when I still lived in LA (in Fresno now). Robert was fantastic and was instrumental transforming my girlfriend. She was terrified of guns before I took here there, and after 2-3 trips with a couple trips to the trap range, she's now a shotgun queen. I don't remember all of their names, but most of the firearm staff in that location have always treated me well.

On the other hand, there are a few other locations that were closer that I will not step foot in again.

I try to only buy firearms at the Riverside store and try to use one guy in particular who's worked there forever. But in general they've been very good there on all my buys...until my last.

The only problem I've had was my last purchase (LRB M25) and somebody misplaced some of the paperwork and I had to re-do some of it and then chew out somebody at their corporate HQ for not contacting LRB like they were supposed to.

In 18yrs of buying firearms, 1 problem purchase. (I got my M25:D so it was eventually worth it).

Sorry to hear of your issues.

I have been a loyal Turners customer when they have the gun in stock, or it is on sale. I buy from the Reseda Store and Pasadena when buying not available in LA City. I miss Don now at LAPRAC. I just priced a gun at Turners and can get it for $100+ less by ordering it over the internet and DROSing it through Gun Runners in Duarte. Turners FFL is A Complete Rip-Off $115 compared to $80. I'd rather spend the difference in gas.

One of my biggest issues with Turners is that they will NOT FFL Off-List-Lowers.

+1 for Ade's

But I do miss B&B... Man, that place had everything in stock to play with.

You have experienced the poor training of Turner's sales staff. They are trained to process every handgun sale as a dealer sale. To them, there is no such thing as PPT or Curio category that exempts you from the 30 day wait. I've had this very discussion with staff and managers at 3 different Turners stores.

I have never had any problems with Turner's in Pasadena and I have bought several guns over the years from them. It seems to me that a consignment sale is different than PPT. In a consignment the dealer gets a cut and thus I would think they would have to run it as a dealer sale unless the DOJ regs have an exemption (I do not know).

I know Turner's does PPT, they have to (state law), and thus know how to do a non-dealer sale. I am not sure what line DnPRK was being feed but that is wrong and does not comport with the law in this state.

I used to work for B&B Sales before they went belly up.

Does anyone know what the scoop is on why B&B went under? Was it purely financial reasons or was something else going on?

I grew up in southern California and used to love going to B&B. The owner Bob at the North Hollywood store was cool to me and my buddy even when we were young kids just out of high school. I still remember him letting us play with the SPAS-12. :D He would take the time to show us what we wanted.

The other sales guys weren't always so friendly. Often you got the feeling that if you weren't ready to buy at that minute they sales guys would try to get rid of you ASAP.

I usually go to the San Bernardino Turners for cleaning supplies and occasional ammo (almost always out of stock). I try to stay away from the gun counters because of overzealous sales people.

I miss the days of they're unlocked surplus rifles out on display. I was too young to remember what they had back then.

I miss the days of surplus arms at Turners, but I have to say, there aren't many gun stores arround Southern California. Yes, B&B was great, but they are gone. Sure, Ade's is great, but he is a small guy, and his store is never open. Sure, World of Warriors is fun to peruse, but, again, it's not open on Sunday. Sure, the retail outlets in the few indoor ranges have lots of stock, but have you seen there prices?

Turners is not perfect, by a long shot, but they do more for shooting with their events and hunter involvement efforts than any of the other stores in So-Cal. I am a loyal Turners customer.

The other thing I remember about going to B&B back in the mid '80s as a teenager, was eyeballing the owners's Corvette that he used to park in front of the store. He also had a Ferrari that would be parked there on occasion. I remember thinking that the guy must have the best job in the world, owning a gun store and having money to buy sweet sports cars. :)

Well after much delay and paperwork, got to pick up my new baby today. I've also discovered that apparently it's time for a new camera, couldn't get a decent pic to save my life. All the same, happy happy, bounce bounce.
