My wife doesn't really care. She's not into guns but isn't an Anti either. To her it's just a case of boys and their toys. And for everyone how does your spouse take to you and your guns?
My wife grew up shooting her dad's 1911A1 and his 30.06. She is possibly more accurate at casual rifleshooting than I am, which is worrysome sometimes.
She has her own which she picks out herself. I'm just along to pay for them most of the time.
I took her with me to pick up a Swede Mauser and she spotted a very nice Russian SKS that she just had to have.
She got to pick out her last gun for herself, and picked a 4" Ruger GP100 with full underlung and adjustable sights. And, she can shoot it quite fine.
I just picked up an AR10 and now she wants a AR15 type to go with it for herself.
Went to the range yesterday with a fairly new .41 Mag and she was punching the 10 and x ring at 15 yds quite easily.
We will start looking for a place to buy soon, the only hard requirement is that there has to be an unobstructed view off the back porch for at least 300 yds. She wants her own range.
She falls somewhere between anti & doesn't really care. She doesn't like guns in the house although there are 7 of them. Funny thing is she really wants to get a pistol permit. Go figure!
My wife supoorts me and my hobby but very rarely shoots. She's a "girly-girl" and doesn't want to get dirty. Her dad was a shooter and hunter so she grew up around guns and her brother is a gunsmith.
My wife was definitely in the neutral camp (except she thinks I spend too much money on guns!) until recently......
She rides her bike alone on back roads and started to realize that she was an easy target.
Today, she dropped her CCW permit application in the mail, and in 90 days or less (Florida must issue), she will be packing her Glock G26 in 9mm with 10+1 rounds of EFMJ +p!
My Ex is an anti through & through...but thankfully she's someone elses problem now!
I was originally told that she had seen enough results of what guns can do as an ER nurse in downtown Los Angeles
She want nothing to do with them things, one thing is I just gotta keep them out of her sight. I dont talk bout it in front of her, If I can afford to buy a 1000 dollars toy I should be able to pay morgage payment by myself for while (her conclusion, not my decision). If I go out to shoot too much, I will sleep on the couch. Doesnt bother me much.... Ohhh welllllll, still cheapper than paying child support.
"If all guns were outlawed, nobody would ever get shot..."
Luckily I had read up on the usual pro-2nd talking points before I broached the subject. We argued for about a week when I told her I wanted to get a pistol. She did a good Oprah/Katie Couric impression on the 'guns are bad' topic... until I asked how - even if we lived in a zero-gun Land of Oz - a retired couple would expect to defend themselves against a home invasion from 18 year old crack thugs.
I have learned from that point on just not to tell her when I buy a gun. It solves nothing. I keep them out of sight at home. She sees me walk out with a big lock box when I go to the range. She does handle it better now - even asks if my friends and I had fun shooting.
My only trouble now is that in order for me to get another gun, I'm going to need a safe. The locking carry box is out of room (or will be when I get a scope on the 10FP.
My wife has shot before and enjoys it, although it's been quite some time. She understands my RKBA rants, but doesn't want to hear them.
The only friction between us is on those rare ocassions when I get a new gun. Then comes the inevitable, "why do you need another gun?" My response is usually along the lines of "why do you need another flower bed?"
My wife goes shooting with me occasionally, and enjoys it. She's talked about getting a target gun of her own, but so far she hasn't gotten into it enough to go to the Party office to get the PRNJ ausweise.
My wife's my shooting buddy. Guess I'm lucky. She's got a Kahr like mine for CCW, a permit, holsters, and a gun purse. You'd never know it to look at her, put pity the criminal mastermind that assumes the wrong thing. She shoots better'n I do!
I truley think that she really does not care. Gardening is her thing. We probably spend about the same amounts of time & money on our respective hobbies. Since we've hit 31 years together, it's sort of a non-issue at this point.
