I am in the market for another 223 and can't decide whether to get an AR-15 M4 or perhaps something new like the Kel-Tec PLR-16. I heard it's a bear to clean the PLR's, but I heard that they are a blast to shot and are very accurate. Still I'm leaning towards an AR, how many AR's does one person need????

Can anyone give me the skinny on tpyes of AR's and the PLR-16????

Bushmaster...it's about as good as shooting can get. There are, however, quite literally not less than a dozen other makers of AR-rifles.

You need 0 to 1 rifles in .223 - One is good for varmint hunting but the ammo is getting more expensive these days - other calibers now make just as good or better SHTF rifles.

I'd say go with the AR. You can shoot 5.56mm today, and with the lower receiver you can always add a Grendel, 6.8 Rem SPC, 7.62x39, etc etc etc upper and mags to your collection at a later date and time, as desired and finances allow.

I would go with the AR any day allot of good companies make them with many different configurations and options.
One you may not have heard of is the Bushamster Dissipator it gives you the full length sight radius but with a 16 inch barrel.
You can have a heavy or heavy fluted barrel or a lightweight one.
With the next upcoming election I would buy the best you can as soon as possible and as often as possible.
Their model for our future is out there just look at what they are talking about and have alrready done in their home states.
Even if it means using a credit card I would want the best.
Colt Bushmaster RRA DPMS Stag all are good shop around or have your friendly local ffl order one for you many charge little for doing so.
Pick up a shotgun news and also check the following sources.
www.auctionarms.com
www.gunbroker.com
www.gunsamerica.com
It pays to shop around.
Best of luck on your quest.:D

I voted AR because I know nothing about the PLR but the amount of options for the AR is immense. Like HorseSoldier said, you can always add another upper to your collection in a different caliber or configuration.

You can never have enough .223's rifles & ammo both.

I also chose the AR because if it's modular design and ease breakdown I cleaning.

It's not about the cartridge, It's about the gun.

So if you like a particular gun, and you can afford it, then get it.

You forgot the option for "both" :)

Do you want a rifle or pistol? I'm considering a PLR because I have an AR and the grin factor on a PLR has got to be pretty high. Could be a heck of a short-medium range truck gun too. Compact, full capacity, and a round with a little more stank on it than a pistol.

I need three...........

A basic Ar15, a heavy barreled Varmit rig and a CZ sporter for calling critters. Essex

I have a Bushmaster carbine model, that's why I was thinking of getting the PLR-16 which is the AR-15 pistol version. I also am thinking about the long barrel flute target AR-15. I think I've heard good things about the PLR-16 but it's loud as h**l.

i say the ar for sure.
and bushmaster, rra, dpms, any of those makers are great and will serve you well. i have a bushmaster and owned another bushmaster in the past and have experience with many many other bushmasters over the years and they have all been great, the two that i have owned are good shooters eat anything and i never had a problm out of em.

the ar just has so much going for it and has tons more accesories and after market stuff for it. plus just having one is one awesome feeling!:)

ar's are or can be made totally modular and you can stick about anything that your heart desires on there, depending on the application that you want it for.

i suggest a a3 model with flat top, 16" m203 profile barrel, and a nice muzzle device the standard military birdcage is great, i also like the phantom and the vortex as well, my bushy has the izzy on it.

i don't need many ar's but i want a 9mm model. a spr model, and sdm set up and a regular a2 20-" barrel set up match if possible, and i woul even love to have one of the dpms sass in .308, do i need them no but wanting out ways need in my book when it comes to firearms.:D

You can never have too many AR-15's. Buy/build a minimalist pencil barrel AR and have a weapon superior to the KelTec in every way but price.

How many 223's does one need

I woke up one morning and realized I had eight 223 rifles and nothing in a bigger caliber. I since replaced two of them with 308 rifles, and have not decided on what to replace a third with. I think a good rule of thumb for a defensive rifle is to have a primary and a spare. So if you have one AR get a second. If you have two already, you might consider some thing else.

You probably need only one, the best AR you can find. Then again, I've got 6 .22s (unless I've forgotten some), so I'm not one to argue.

I have 3 AR's of different configurations and the PLR-16. If you already have an AR get the PLR-16 if not get an AR then get a PLR-16. All are great fun.

At least three.

A PLR.

A 223 M4 Bushmaster.

and a NM Rock River Arms.

I heard it's a bear to clean the PLR's,

Not true.
The PLR is extermely easy to clean. Due to the AK type action the bolt, bolt carrier and receiver stays very clean and the gun is a snap to break down.
