How many different powders do you keep?

2 lb 231 for 9mm, I will get a 4 or 8 lb jug of this.
1lb ea Unique for 9mm and shotgun,
1lb Universal for shotgun.
1lb Longshot for shotgun
1lb ea H4895 and IMR4350 for 30-06 (the gun told me today it does not like IMR4350, so I will get more H4895, but no more 4350 unless the GF's 6.5 Swede likes it).
1 lb Pyrodex P for the .44 Rem.
1lb Black Horn for the .50 ML.

So, that's only 9. But I've only been loading for about a year.

.

I try to keep the different powders to a minimum and order in quantity, so I tend to stick to more versatle powders, which right now is 4: W231 for 9mm and 45 ACP; H110 for 30 Carbine; H322 for 223 Rem and 6.8 SPC; and IMR 4064 for heavier rifle calibers (308 Win., 30-30 Win. and 6.5x55). I may start loading 300 Win, Mag, so I may have to add another powder (H1000?).

Powder Valley has the best prices I can find, if ordered in 8# kegs, and ships very promptly.

red dot, blue dot, unique, power pistol, 2400, h110, AA #7, w231, imr 3031, imr 4350, imr 4895. might be forgetting a few but i think thats most of them.

Pistol loads: 4 powders (Could get by with the two VITs)
Win 231
AA#5
Vit n320
Vit n340
(A pistol on my "Bucket LIst" will need powder #5, Silhouette )

too many. I keep trying to consolidate, then I come across somebody getting rid of powder because they're dead or done reloading and I get more powders. I even have powders I literally cannot use. h870 anyone?

Without going and counting I'm going to say 12 handgun powders and 8 rifle powders.

I use mostly 3 handgun powders, W231, W540 and W296. (HP-38, HS-6 and H110) I use mostly 2 rifle powders, H4895 and H4350 but I do use the others for caliber specific loads.

If I had to limit myself I would keep 6 powders, the 3 handgun powders I mentioned and the 2 rifle powders I mentioned plus H4198.

W231 - 9mm, .380, .40 s&w, .357 mag, .45 acp
IMR 700x - trap and skeet loads
Lil' gun - 410 & 28 ga loads
H335 - .223 loads
H4895 - .308 and .30-06

Pistol:
Bullseye
Promo
Clays
Titegroup
WST
N320
Green Dot
W231/HP-38
Unique
Universal
Power Pistol
HS-6
WSF
AutoComp

Rifle:
H335
H4895
IMR4895
Varget
RL15

I tried powder reduction in the past but attempts were not successful for the following reasons:

Bullseye/Titegroup - Produce accurate loads but looking to replace with WST/Solo 1000.

Clays/N320 - Produce cleaner loads but looking to try Solo 1000 to replace both

Promo - Using Red Dot load data as indicated by Alliant, produces accurate 9mm/45ACP lead loads with lighter recoil. Very economical as 4.0 gr charge is used for 9mm 125 gr and 45ACP 200 gr bullets.

W231/HP-38 - I always have 8 pound jug on hand as it produces accurate and clean burning loads for 38 Spl/9mm/40S&W/45ACP whether jacketed/plated/lead/Moly coated lead bullets.

WSF/AutoComp - WSF is still my "go to" full-power load powder with milder recoil and prefer over HS-6. AutoComp is reported as WSF with flash suppressant.

If I could only have a few powders, it would be W231/HP-38, Promo/Red Dot and WSF.

I really like H335 for .223 and H4895 for .308.

Since I have tried many powders, I have quite a few "on hand", although many are not normally used. I have about 6 or 7 I have bought in quantity. I just picked up some AA 1680 at the last gun show. I had never tried it before. The results in my .22 Hornet with 40 Gr V-Max's says it's a keeper, not to mention the preliminary results with 155 Gr A-Max's in .300 BLK are very promising as well.

Walkalong you should try Lil Gun in that 22 Hornet for the best results IMHO.
I have at last count 15 different propellants on hand that I use with regularity. then there are some old ones I am meaning to try like that almost full can of Hi Vel #2 and the full can of Winchester Western 230 FP -pistol that has no lot number on the pink paper label that I found in my grandfathers old stash.:D

I have 44 powders on hand.

In the last year I have used:
7mmRemMag ............H4350
270 ........................H4350
45/70.......................Bullseye, Red Dot
50 CB Short.............. Bullseye, Red Dot
380 .........................Power Pistol, bullseye
45 auto rim ..............H110
32 S&W Long ..........H110
38S&W ..................Unique, Power Pistol
45acp ....................3N37

Within the next month I will do a lot of:
257 Roberts AI....... ...H4895
260 Rem ..................H4895

So if I use 8 powders and keep 44, the ratio is 18%

^^ you might want to try Universal Clays then - cleaner than Unique and characteristics are VERY similar
Every time I go to buy powder I try to pick up some Universal Clays to try. I swear that powder must be very popular in this area, I can never find it.

Power Pistol isn't to easy to find either, but I have better luck finding it.

I use about 5 different powders but I am Active Army in Alaska and when reloading buddies pack up and head to a new duty station I have been lucky enough to be gifted their left overs. I load for enough calibers that I will find a use. My only issue is finding someone to take my left overs. I can't take a lot of the stuff through Canada. I have a ton of magnum primers now that I need to work up some loads to use them. I have a few years to work through my stash and shoot all of my rounds, I can think of worse problems to deal with....This one is just fun....

I have about 12-13 on hand.
Half for rifle, Half for pistol. There is also 3 reloaders in the house for now. Were going thru them to see what we like.

So far, W-231 is a safe bet....

There's "keep" and "have on hand". The answer to the latter is "quite a few". I don't "keep" them until they've proven their worth. The "on-hand" powders were purchased in 1# quantities and are used for load development. They aren't "keepers" until I find a load using them that works well at which point I buy them in quantity.

As it stands right now, my "keepers" are Varget, IMR8208XBR, TAC, AA1680 and H4831SC on the rifle side and Unique, Clays and Power Pistol on the handgun side.

On hand, in addition to those above I have H414, BL-C-(2), Benchmark, Reloader 10X, Reloader 19, H4350, IMR4895, IMR3031, IMR4007SSC, Hunter, AA2520, AA2230, H322, H335, Supreme 780, Universal, AA#2, AA#7, H110, 2400, Herco, Bullseye, Universal, Trailboss and N340.
