how many duplicates do you own?

I have two 3rd gen Gock 19s. Bought them a week apart. Used to have 3 Mossberg 500s. and 3 10/22s. Now I have one of each. (thank you our economy) I'm trying to amass my 10/22 arsenal.

I've noticed a lot of folks just like to collect/accumulate.

From a pragmatic standpoint, a 2nd (or additional) gun is not only a working backup but a source of spare parts.

Currently, I have 2 HK P7's, 'cause I use it as a carry gun. Buying spare parts is almost more expensive than a spare gun.

And a few AR's.

I think the compatible-gun approach (e.g. Glock 19 and Glock 26) makes sense, too. I don't own Glocks anymore, tho, for unrelated reasons.

At the end of the day, you have hobbyist and hoarding behavior overlapping with practical use and the variations in pricing... Interesting to note the range of responses.

Lets see

I have a pair each of

Glocks 23s
LCPs.
Taurus PT1911s in Duotone
Kimber eclipse pro's
Kimber ultras
Savage bvss in 204 with matching leupolds
three ar 15s look basically the same
2 more savge BVSS in different calibers

None, except in rimfires. I have several rifles and handguns in .22LR. I try to vary my guns. When I buy a firearm I go for something I don't already have and have never owned.

None! I do have a lot of similar guns like 1 of each caliber of ruger blackhawks, a service and a security six with 4 inch barrels and a snubbie service, etc. but no direct dupilicates.

I think a dozen or more. If you count the same model but small changes jump to about double that amount. Then think 6 or more of some all slightly different. And yes I do it cause of in the instance of my Ruger MK II pile-o-guns they all use the same mags and I wanted those mags to have a place to stay without getting lost.:D The 6 SKS's were dirt cheap when I got them as were the bunch of Mini 14's. Etc....Etc...

I want to get a duplicate of my Ruger model P95 and then a duplicate of my duplicate...so 4 would be fine for me. 2 SS, 2 in black.

Bought the first one for $35. Shot it so well I had to have another, and another, ect. I quit when I had to pay $300 for the one with a box.

I have duplicates of several models. I have long tended to purchase spares of anything that I really like, and/or is very important to me. Another thing is that my wife tends to want one for herself; the His-n-Hers factor.

My duty pistols are a good example. I have to buy my own, and want one spare at work with me. Every firearm at a duty-related shooting scene must be examined at the firearms lab, so I want to have at least a third to get me through that time period. So, I have three P229 pistols with DAK triggers. (The DAK is my choice; my employer authorizes both DA/SA and DAK.) Because I really like the P229 for sporting purposes, I also have two all-stainless steel ST models, which can double as HD guns. I just bought P229 E2, to try the smaller grip. It may be a CC or spare duty gun for me, or it may be claimed by She Who Must Be Obeyed.

I have spares of my favored .223 and .308 rifles.

I have several SP101 snubbies and near-snubs because I sometimes carry more than one at a time.

I had 48 P7s at one point, but own far less than that now. I own several 1911s and ARs, but none of them are exact duplicates, not sure if that counts.

Why?, Just curious, I understand you may like a particular model, but 50 of them is a bit over the top. I am curious as to what your proces was if you don't mind explaining it, "not being a wise guy". I would think that perhaps one might try a different model pistol having been fortunate enough to be able to indulge onself in the hobby. Unless you perhaps buy and sell that particular gun, as a business of some sort. I find for me, I always find a new pistol I would like to try, having been doing this as my main hobby for 50 years. I still see new weapons daily that I would love to have a chance to own. Having several Glocks, for instance, even though I prefer to carry one most times, there are many other pistols and revolvers I would like to shoot, and perhaps carry in rotation.

I could understand if I had extra money buying multiples for collecting purposes, cool factor, etc. I actually plan on it one day. However, my current low incoming status forces me to be very careful about how my money is spent. This means that I have to diversify as much as possible when it comes to size, caliber, brand name. One gun for every usage.

I bought my first one when most of them were going for $875. I found one for $700 and jumped on it. About 4 times a year I'd see someone who needed cash NOW selling their for ~$600 and I'd buy those as well. I think I was up to 10 or 12 when I heard rumors that police imports were coming in for cheap, so I sold most of mine. I waited several months, and when the imports came in I took all of the cash from selling mine and put them into imports (the old sell high, buy low trick). Twice I've bought someone else's collection when they wanted to sell the whole set at once, which means I got smoking deals on a per gun basis but had to buy 12 at once or something like that. As the imports became less available, I'd start selling one off every once in a while.

I would think that perhaps one might try a different model pistol having been fortunate enough to be able to indulge oneself in the hobby.

At one point (before they made 1911s and the P250) I owned every model that Sig made. I've either owned or shot most of the Glocks, HKS, FNs, M&Ps, XDs, Walthers, Kel Tecs, and several others I'm sure I'm forgetting, as well as most manufacturer's 1911s. Having an FFL, it is pretty easy to buy a gun "just because it is cheap" and then sell it if I don't like something about it. So I have tried different models. For pure range guns and if I ever needed a pistol for home defense, I prefer 1911s. For carry I like P7s. I noticed none of those other guns got shot much, so I sold just about all of them.

Unless you perhaps buy and sell that particular gun, as a business of some sort.

I don't make a living off of selling P7s, but I've never lost money on one :)

If you mean "exactly" like the other, probably none.

But...

I've got three 10/22 DSP's. Those are about as close to one another as you can find I suppose.

Two Ruger Single-Six's. Both 5.5 in barrels, both made in 1958. But one's converted, the other isn't. Wooden grips and plastic grips are different too.

Two Smith & Wesson Model-10's. One's a 10-5, with a 5" barrel, the others a 10-7 with a 4". Close enough for me.

Two T-53 Mosin/Nagants.

I had two Yugo SKS's, but sold one.
