How many guns do you NEED?

I agree with Mannlicher! As soon as I finish paying for a pistol, Im all ready planning my next purchase! My friend and I call ourselfs colt freaks! we both can't seem to quench our quest for buying colts! :what:

how many?

Hey, I reciently moved from NJ to the hills of Pennsylvania. When a friend from NJ visited and commented on all of the gun racks he saw in PA pick-up trucks, I informed him that is isn't a question of IF someone had a gun here. No, the only question is whats kinds and how many.

Sorry to say it but America starts west of the Delaware. I don't know about this sea to shinning sea stuff. ;) 70 miles west of New York City lies a whole other world. You couldn't pry me out of this place with a 10 foot crow bar!

Hey, I'm from NYC. Most people there have never even shot off a pistol; therefore, there is no "need" to have a gun. Out of my collection though, I "need" my Colt Delta Elite; I need my S&W 686; I need my Taurus 605 (.357) I need my S&W 4516 and I need my Ruger Super Red Hawk.
To complete my collection (for now), I want to get a S&W 610 (10mm pistol).

No offense to New Yorkers intended. And NJ isn't quite as bad as NYC, But once you get out of there you wonder how you did it.

Right now? None.

Tomorrow, I'll need 2 for my class.

If someone's breaking in the house, I'll need at least one.

If mutant-ninja-zombie-bears with blue helmets come for me, I'll need all I can get.

Ah, C'mon fellas. Why am I the first one to mention this?

Seriously, 5 outta do it. If we're talking about SHTF here, I'd have to keep in mind availability of ammo (other than self-provided).
  • Subcompact in 9mm
  • Full Size in .40 or .45
  • 12 guage pump
  • AR15
  • Long range scoped rifle in 30.06 or .308

My guns have never served a need, but each one of them has to fill a niche: Got the compact 9mm for carry, need to get a full size nine for the range. More sight radius, afterall. Also, a cheap, plinker nine is mandatory to fill in the gaps. And so on . . .

Trust me, this really helps to rationalize buying more.

None. Most folks either don't have or don't use what they have, and manage to get through life just fine. Need should never be a factor for freedom loving individuals...

I need two, one for me ,and one to borrow out to those that think they will never need one in order to assure their freedom.

(sorta like the ones we supplied England with in the 1940's)

Pocket Gun - ?
Medium Sized 9mm - CZ PCR
.45 SA/DA - HK USP45C
Full Sized 1911 - Nighthawk Enforcer
Small .357 Mag - Ruger SP101
.44 Mag - S&W 29
.22LR Lever Rifle - Browning
.223 AR - Armalite
.308 Bolt Action - Winchester or Tikka
Shotgun - Remington 870

It's hard to define "need." In reality, I don't need any guns. But if someone breaks into my house, I'll need one. If the SHTF, I'll need one. If I'm hiking and come across a rattlesnake, I'll need one.

I don't have them because I need them. I have them because the potential exists to need one someday. I hope that the situation never arises, but I never want to end up in that situation and have to say "now I need it, but I don't have it."

The title is: "How many guns do you need?"

My answer is: "All of them".

And another sidearm in my collection sure won't be breaking my heart nor will it my bank account. I'm long overdue for another - this time Sig 40 S&W DA.

"Guns" is only part of the answer. You should also ask how much ammunition I need, how much in back up parts such as magazines, springs, other spare parts, etc ... and solvents.

Have:
1. Bersa MiniFireStorm .45 ACP
2. Weirauch (EAA) Windicator .38 Spl. snub-nose.

Need:
1. Bersa .45 ACP. Primary CCW gun.
2. EAA .38 Spl. Secondary (easier concealment) gun.

Could also stand to "need".
1. 12-ga. shotgun (self-defense stopping power never argued about this gun!)
2. AR-15 or AK-47 rifle with at least 2 or 3 spare 30-rd. magazines (for all-out SHTF).

And maybe a "need" (because my gun-loving life just wouldn't be complete without ;) ):
1. Full-size 1911
2. Commander-size 1911
3. Hi-capacity 1911 (particularly, the Para 14.45)

But with what I have now, I need both. Since the girlfriend lives with me and can't yet carry, one of them is always here in case an "unwanted visitor" should enter the dwelling while I'm not here to protect her.

Just enough to fulfill my requirement of being "Well Regulated"... being necessary for a free state... you know, in case the British (or others of that particular sort) decide to march to Lexington and Concord to disarm the rebels (or anything even resembling that premise)

A plinker/trainer in .22, both long and hand held type

A defender of hearth & home in a serious caliber, both long and hand held type w/ rifled bore

A smoothbore

Anything that P.O.'s the politicians :)

Enough ammo for each for a 12 mo. period

Maybe one or two more of each to help out a trusted family member or friend should the need arise (see para 1 above)

Everything else is gravy.

YMMV
