How many guns do you actually NEED? Not want but need. Please give an overall number and an actual list including the intended purpose of the weapon. Go ahead and include your list of guns you want as well.

I need 5 guns
1. S&W model 60- deep carry, pocket or ankle CCW as a backup gun
2. S&W model 65 4"- daily CCW, inside the waistband or outside. Big enough to shoot well, small enough to coneal with little effort
3. Remington 870 Police- 0-100 yards self defense
4. Reminton 700 Police- extends my "sphere of influence" way out past shotgun range. Useful for hunting as well
5. Ruger 77/22- bolt action .22 for quiet hunting, target practice

What I'd prefer to have
1. S&W model 642- pocket/ankle CCW
2. S&W model 60- practice, backup to 642
3. S&W model 65 4"- daily CCW
4. S&W model 66 4"- practice, backup to 65
5. Remington 870 Police- 0-100yard self defense
6. Reminton 870 Wingmaster- hunting, backup to 870
7. AR-15 16"- 0-200 yard self defense
8. AR-15 16"- practice, backup to other AR
9. Reminton 700 Police- sniper rifle
10. Remington 700- hunting
11. Ruger 77/22- cheap quiet target practice, hunting
12. Ruger 10/22- backup to 77/22 (can't shoot CB ammo though)

I like to have 2 of everything, in case something happens to one of my guns. Anyone else think this way?

1. Deep-concealment handgun for pocket use and backup to main CCW.
2. Main CCW handgun.
3. .22LR handgun for training/plinking.
4. .22LR rifle for ditto.
5. Main rifle for hunting.
6. Main rifle for defense/SHTF use.
7. Shotgun for hunting.
8. Shotgun for defense/SHTF use.

Double the above numbers, as I want a backup piece (in case of breakdown or other problems) for every primary weapon.

That gives me 16 so far... and I haven't even started to think about bear defense, zombie situations, or ninjas in their various disguises! :D

None. Most folks either don't have or don't use what they have, and manage to get through life just fine. Need should never be a factor for freedom loving individuals...

I need all of my guns. Some I need for protection, some I need for fun, and some I need for both.

On a side note, one of the first groups of people to play a form of soccer were orientals who would split into teams and kick the heads of their opponents into goals. (the article says ball, but I have also read they kicked heads)

I only buy guns that I'll shoot and actually have a use for so I'd say all of them.

If I had to boil it down...

Kimber Elite Carry for any day carry
BM Dissipator AR-15 for longer range defense
12ga Browning Citori for bird hunting
Browning A-bolt in 7mm Mag for larger game hunting and even longer range defense
.22 bolt action or slightly modified 10/22 for smaller game hunting
A nice double rifle in 700NE or maybe an 8 or 4 bore, because need is just so subjective :neener:

As many as I can get into my gun safe...I'm putting in more shelves right now. :D

9mm auto and .22lr auto
OR
.38 special revolver and .22lr revolver

12ga pump

.22lr rifle

High-powered rifle of some kind. .30-30, .243, and .308 are what I like.

Bare minimum for SHTF survival would be .22lr pistol or revolver and a 12ga pump.

I need every gun I have, but I don't have many.

Walther P99 9mm for concealed carry
Marlin 60 .22 for plinking and squirrels
NEF Ultra 243 for varmint to deer
CZ 550 American 9.3 x 62 for anything bigger than a deer
870 for birds and home defense

I think this covers about every need that could arise, I would like something a little larger ( .416 Rigby ) if I ever went after a Hippo or Elephant (unlikely), but 9.3 would do in a pinch.

My list in no particular order:
1. .45 auto, 1911 of course.
2. .357 mag DA revolver. S&W or Ruger.
3. .22 auto pistol. take your pick
4. 9mm, Any good military type. (For cheap range time.)
5. One totally impractical, large caliber, massive, heavy, long barreled
handgun. (just because...)
6. 12 GA pump shotgun w/ multiple barrels. (For everything.)
7. Browning 20 GA. Over/Under. (Upland Gunning)
8. Single shot .410 (Squirrels when the leaves are still up.)
9. 30/06 or .308 M77, Rem700, Win model 70. Leupold Scope (classic deer rifle.)
10. .22 rifle. Whatever turns you on. (Squirrels when the leaves are down.)
11. AR-15 Type or M1A/ Garand if you must. (SHTF)
12. .243 M77, Rem700, Win model 70. Leupold Scope (Kid/Wife Gun & for when .30 Cal is not needed.)
That the BARE minimum... I haven't aquired all of these yet,but i'm close.

Personally, I could trim my current collection down to 5 and be pretty happy.

1. Full-sized 1911
2. Commander-sized 1911
3. Remington 870 Shotgun
4. AR-15 Rifle
5. P3AT

I've got a .22 conversion kit for the 1911s for .22 practice.

I doubt I'll do that trimming, though.

Rem 870 for the birds...

.300 Wby for the moose and bears...

Rem 700 22-250 for the lil stuff...

Ruger 10/22 for trainin' the boys...

XD40 for the home defense...

and a Raven .25 auto to plant on the guy I use the XD40 on... j/k :D

1) 1911 - Main autoloader
2) PM9 - backup/ deep concealment autoloader
3) Remington 870 short/long barrel - Duck hunt and home defense
4) AR-15 - SHTF/semi auto/ battle rifle
5) Remington 700 LA - Reach out and touch someone.

Yup, only need 5 as per original poster.

Ask me the the same question regarding tools, cars, or ladies, and I'll give you the exact same answer. ;)

.

Anyway, back to the original post,

Primary handgun--Beretta 92G.
Backup gun--another Beretta 92G in case Nina goes down.
Long gun--FR8. Would like an AR-15 some day.
