I have a new mini 30 7.62 with only a 5 round mag. I bought it a few years ago and never got around to firing it. Now with the values going crazy and high cap mag stuff happening I want to get some 20 round mags. The gun really doesnt have much value with only one 5 rounder, so how many 20 rounders should I invest in? theyre now about $70 each. Or should I just sell the gun at todays prices and get something else. Any advise here is helpful.

Thanks.

Why not?:)

The often quoted "suggested" number of mags is 5 mags per handgun, 10 mags per rifle. But YMMV depending on what you plan to use it for. One thing's for sure... it's not a good time to buy mags unless you want to spend a lot of money.

The question is how many magazines does a person really need? For hunting purposes, a 5 round magazine is more than sufficient. If you're a good shot, you'll need only 1 shot.:D But seriously, who's going to war?

Semi auto rifles like you Mini are very difficult to come by now. I would keep it.

If you want more mags I would go to the ruger website. They are taking backorders up to 5 mags per customer.

I shoot 3 gun a bit and normally carry 10-15 loaded mags to each shoot (depending on the setup for the day), that way I don't ever have to reload at the shoot and I have spare mags ready to go if one gets damaged.

Really, why is that?

so how many 20 rounders should I invest in?
How may do you want and how much are you willing to pay?

Or should I just sell the gun at todays prices and get something else.
How could anybody here answer this question?

Go a Google or Yahoo search for "Mini-30 magazine", skip the first 15-25 pages of the search engine findings, and then start searching for mags. Most people go in order of the search engine and get tired and frustrated and quit about ten pages in. This is the technique I used last week after buying a Mini-14 with only a 5-round mag and I found a guy with 20-round magazines in stock for $26 each, they were shipped out the next morning, and I had them in three days. This is also how I found 30 Carbine bullets for $90/1000.

If you are not sure if a website has the item in stock, give them a call. I bet in less than 30 minutes you will be able to find reasonably priced 20-round mags in stock. They may not be Ruger brand, but it's better than paying $70-$90 per mag. You can also buy two aftermarket ones now, and then buy Rugers when the prices come back down.
