I was curious as to how many magazines fellow users had for their rifles.

I am happy with what I have, but sometimes wonder if I should get more. The other thing I ponder is capacity. For example, if I have 5 30 rounders, and 1 20 rounder, why do I have the 20? Should I get a 10? Perhaps a 5?

I can see for hunting and whatnot where laws govern how many rounds someone can have. I don't know of competitions and leagues, if they have conditions.

But I submit to you, Highroadians- How many magazines do you have for your rifle(s)?

I've got 12 between 2. 10 30's and 2 15's.

10 for each rifle. Why? some will fail, some I will break, some I will lose, let someone borrow and not get back, etc., then the price to buy at a later date, will almost assuredly be more, or for a rifle, where you can no longer find them, or if you can, at a greatly increased price.
' ammo and mags' ... I personally believe, in the direction the country is headed, could be worth their weight in gold eventually.

I'm not a mag collector, I have just enough for a range trip. Currently 6 Pmags for the Sig. My K31 technicaly has a mag, but you load it from clips.

for ar-15's i keep about 11 30-rounders and 11 20-rounders per ar. why the 20's? prone shooting (nra/cmp highpower competitions) is much easier w/ 20's.

most other rifles i just keep somewhere between 2 and 11, depending on the rifle, mag expense, etc.

This should really be a poll. This also doesn't take into account if you have enough ammo on hand to fill said mags and if you have some sort of gear with mag pouches to hold those loaded mags.

That said, I have two 25 rounders and one 15 rounder for the wife's 22LR M4ergy. I really need to get more soon, that rifle gets the highest round count by far and reloading mags every 5 minutes at the range gets annoying fast.

Four 20 rounders and one 10 rounder for the M1A.

Don't even know how many STANAG mags I have, probably 15 to 20. 4 Pmags and 1 Sig 556 factory mag for the Sig 556.

I only have two rifles with removable magazines; a 10/22 and a PTR-91.

The 10/22, I have four Ruger factory rotary 10 rd. magazines and a decent stash of CCI Mini-Mags.

The PTR is relatively new, I've only had it a few weeks yet, but I have (21) 20-rd magazines, of which at least 16 I know are fully functional (mostly surplus steel G3 mags). I'm currently figuring out what types of ammo my particular rifle likes (the idiosyncracies of the PTR's is well documanted on this forum) so I can slowly try and stockpile a usable quantity of ammo.

I also have a Norinco SKS, with a dozen 10-rd stripper clips and a couple hundred rounds stashed.

Fifteen 30s for my AR but only five mags for my AK. And 1100 rounds for each. Need to buy a few more mags for the AK while they're cheap.

Problem is that I have multiple rifles to use those mags in.
I know that 20-rd FAL mags I have over 40. How many over 40? I don't remember, and that's saying it all right there. I know I have 40 because I have 4 .30-caliber ammo cans full of loaded mags (ten fits perfectly in a .30-cal can!).

Wait, there's at least 42 because there's mags in two of the rifles.
I know the parts kits have at least one mag in them. Plus there's a couple more stashed here or there, and the bag full of mag parts... At least 50.

Probably.

AR has 6(need more)
P89 has 5
1911 has 4(need more
Noes has 2 (need more)
Mark I has 1 (need alot more)
rest are wheel guns or shot guns

I have a few for the ones that have mags

Actually I have a butt load of magazines, they just happen to be for a M-4, and I don't have one of those anymore, I think I have over 30, used to have them all in a box, but they have scattered, really ought to do something with them.

I guess you're talking about an AR or AK. I think you have enough for most contingencies. I prefer the 20 in the AR as it's easier to use in the prone. 30 rd mags are very useful in a full auto or 3 rd burst M4 or M16. 5 and 10 rds are good if you shoot competition, have restrictions for hunting, or find yourself in a state with capacity restrictions, otherwise I don't find much use for them.

I find teh number of magazines I have is usually directly proportional to the number of firearms I have that use them. I have a few ARs so I have about a dozen mags and only 3 for my Remington 7400. I own several 1911s with about 30 mags I've acquired since my first one in 1974 but only 3 for the P1 I don't carry and that's what it came with.

I can't see much purpose for having 40 or 50 mags for one gun but if that's what floats your boat go for it. I carried as many as 30 mags in Vietnam (20s no 30s then) depending on what I was doing. Ammo was free. Never found myself in a situation where I ran them all dry.

As has been said, the mags are useless unless you have ammo to fill them.

Well, offhand I think I have 5 rifles with detachable magazines. Two are 22 rifles and I think I have 3 for each. Then I have an FAL, AN AR15 and an H&K 91. Just guesstimating I probably have about 80 for the FAL (had about 30 and saw them on sale at some place at $2 if you bought 50 so I did), maybe 25 or so for the AR and about the same (or a few more) for the 91.

Probably way more than I'll ever need but I'd rather have too many than too few.

I've got one 5 rounder for my Savage Mark II (and sometimes I don't even use that, single shot loading seems to help accuracy).

7 30 round and 2 20 round Pmags for my AR15. The 20s are for the bench, and the 30s were a great price, $12 each brand new. I've only been able to afford to load and shoot them all at once one time 'cause I'm poor. :(

Not a rifle, but I've got 6 mags for my G19, just because that's what it came with. It is pretty handy to have 90 rounds on tap at the range before having to load mags though.

I really can't see owning more than I could comfortably carry loaded in a backpack or something similar. I don't shoot enough to worry about frequent worn out springs and needing back up mags and all that. I said I was poor didn't I?

Well, I cut my number and types down, but when I had my AK, I had about 10 mags-- Now with my AR15, I have only 6-- (2) 20s and (4) 30s..But I will probably go ahead and try to keep at least 20 total to rotate...

A gaggle of GI 30 rounders, some with Magpul followers and base pads, a handful of 30 round Pmags, a half-dozen 20-rounders that are older than I am, and one each of the Tripp Research 42 and 52 round supermags.

2 colt 20 rnd for NRA HP service rifle matches
1 42 rnd pmag
boxes of 30 rnd pmags
drawers of 30 rnd D&H

Way more than my wife thinks I need.. But sHe doesn't get the whole "it's just a club without mags idea".

I have at least 50 mags for the AR platform.
Probably 30 or so for the AK
60 HK91 mags. They are only a dollar at Cheaper than Dirt.
40 Wilson Combat mags for my 1911's but I have 11 different 1911's.
Need more for the M1A and FAL. Also for the galil and the HK93.
Most of my handguns I have at least 10 for each.

I've got 5 or 10 of the cheap POS ones that I cannot for hte life of me get to work :( I can only load 3 rounds MAX with the strippers

Got about:
125 or more 15mags for the M1 carbine, most still sealed in USGI packs of 10.
400 ar15 30rnd mags
50 ar15 20rnd mags
60 AK (7.62) mags mostly russian bakelites
50 M1A mags
50 FAL mags
50 Glock 19 mags
150 Beretta 92 mags
30 M1911 mags
40 Browning HP mags

misc other mags...all numbers are close guestimates...

I shoot for ten mags for each specific gun although there is some overlap with sub 2000's and glock pistols.
Spares in mags and parts are what I am concentrating on in case there is ever another ban or other restrictions.
