How many magazines do you have?

Gotta have spares against wear and tear, in a person's regular shooting for practice. The need would vary with the amount of shooting and handling, seems to me.

Insofar as any sort of fire fight in self defense, if the problem can't be solved in one or two magazine's worth of fire, the problem is not the number of magazines. The problem is the shortage of people on your side.

My M17 (uses Stanag mags) has 2x 20rnd Lancer L5s, 4x 20rnd PMags, 2x 20rnd USGI, 1x 30rnd PMag, and 1x 30rnd USGI (with a couple of additional 20rnd USGI in reserve), so a total of 10 for use.

My other rifles have fewer mags, because I don't believe more is necessary. M1 Carbine has 3x 15rnd USGI, 2x 30rnd Korean, and 1x 5rnd Mag. and this is probably the second highest. Others typically have 2-4 per rifle/pistol. IMO you don't need a ton of mags for most rifles, because most are well constructed. I find the AR (Stanag) magazine is often the exception to this rule.

:)

Sorry fellas, I don't have time to read the thread, but wanted to post anyhow.

I have dozens of magazines, all the Hades over my house. You can't go into any room in our house but what you see I keep them by the dozens on racks...racks full I tell ya! Seriously, you never know when you might need one, or three. Mostly, though, I have non-subscription type magazines. You know, American Hunter, Green Peace for Idiots, People, Time, News Week and the list goes on. Wow, I'm glad to see a few folks here still know what reading is.

What?! Well, the topic was magazines, right?! April Fools Succas!!!! :neener:

Let's see...

2 for XD45
2 for my wife's Hi-standard .22 pistol
3 for my 10/22
144 enbloc clips for my Garand

The OP did say rifles, correct? I guess I am pretty conservative. Just off-the-cuff (since I am not at home at the moment):
My M1A = 4 USGI 20 rounders (I try to buy those when they are on sale) and 1 - 5 round hunting magazine. Really want to up to m preferred carry load of 6 mags.
My GSG carbine = 5 - 22 rounders (they also fit the GSG 5 PK pistol I have as well.)
Mauser 98K = About 110 stripper clips loaded 8mm.

I got a lot & don't think much of it. I'm visiting California now. I went to a gun store called Ammo Bros. in Ontario. Lots of AR's but they said they can't be more than 10 rounds and they have to be fixed to the weapon. (Meaning the magazines are bolted in place) I guess all you need in California is one.

Sometimes magazines are scarce for some rifles. Older, discontinued rifles especially. They are worth buying when you see them. Make good trading stock on occasion.

I avg 2 to 3 per type of rifle, except an SSG 69. I have 9 for that one.

one in the gun (empty, unless loading up at the range, or wearing it)
one in the kit box (in case something happens to the one in the gun)

never had one go bad on me yet, never needed but one at a time
always took me just as long to load two once, as it did to load one twice

I have probably 4-5 Ruger rotary mags for my 10/22 and probably an equal number of larger capacity mags that often seem to cause the rifle to jam. On other rifles, I prefer to have 3 or 4 mags for each one, however there are a few rifles that I only own one mag for them. In particular, I need a few 5-round mags for my Savage Mark II.

Well supplied with Ruger Mark II/III mags for hunting, plinking, and target shooting.

I keep maybe 10 mags for my Mini-14. About half are Ruger mags and other other ones I have tested and they work most of the time. Don't really shoot that rifle much as I consider it more of a plinker and it is too expensive to just plink with 223/5.56 as far as I'm concerned. Not really worried about my abilities with the rifle in terms of practice.

I have 5 or 6 mags for my Glock 40 S&W pistols. They interchange so they are all useful.

Just guesstimating I probably have about 80 for the FAL (had about 30 and saw them on sale at some place at $2 if you bought 50 so I did)

I would also have a lot more magazines if i could get them at $2 each.

I have 15 or 16 mags for my VZ58, which is still just a parts kit.

I have about 2 dozen metric FAL mags, for the RFB that I have no idea when I'll be able to buy.

I have 50 HK91 mags, despite no desire to own an HK or clone.

What I need now are more DP28 pan mags. :)

AR's - x7 P-mags, x6 30 rounders, x6 20 rounders, x2 40 rounders, x2 5 rounders
AK - x8 30 rounders x1 75 round drum
FAL - x2 20 rounders (Need more, lots more!)
10/22's - x5 factory 10 rounders, x4 hi caps (25-40), x1 50 round drum
M1 carbine - x9 15 rounders

Well for my Ar i have five at the moment, looking to make that ten soon:D
And for my new Ak i only have one:uhoh: but give me time i will be up too ten for that one too.

I have 15-20 mags for my 2 AR's. I am getting a third gun soon so I will probably buy another 10 or so.

I have 5 for my mini-14

I have 18 for my 2 Glocks

I have about 20 for my four 1911's

I have 4 for my 2 LCP's

I have 2 for my Saiga.

15 rifle mags is pretty good. It's what fits in an ammo can. Sixteen if you keep one in the rifle. I can't think of many situations where I can't grab the FAL, and an ammo can, and get moving. So, I have several ammo cans full of mags. It's a great way to store them loaded, and you'd be amazed at how many 1911 mags fits in one of those cans.

I like to devote 3 mags to each handgun... if I am in a situation where I need more than that, well, I am pretty well screwed. That said, I can concede that there is no such thing as having too many mags, though I personally see little point in many people's "minimum.."

Semi-auto rifles are a bit different. Because of range use I like to have 5 mags per gun. With the AR, 3 30's, 1 10, and 1 5 round mag. For my AK, 3, 30's and 2 10's.... I am not one to do mag dumps. The only gun i have with more is my PTR-91.. I have 10 20 rounders for it.

I see no practical use for more for myself. if I decide to shoot more than my mag count allows, well I guess that is why I have these nifty thumbs.... not THAT difficult to reload.
