Two and a half months I've been waiting, since I applied.
I'll give BATF another call on Jan.2.
I just know, that everything good will be gone, by time I receive my License. :banghead: ;)
Oh, Yes. The BATF only recently put the requirement for a Certificate of Compliance on their web site.
I didn't send one, because I didn't know about it, and that will probably hold things up.
Hope I can get things straightened out Thursday.

Legal question:

Does a gun have to be on the list to be C&R, or does any gun made =>50 years ago automatically qualify?

Dont have one but with my addictive personality, not so sure I should get one.

For the record, I voted for 'I'm probably going to get one in the future'.

Had mine for over 5 years now and the discounts I get at Brownell's, Midway and other places have more than paid for the license itself. Well. actually, it helps a little to offset the debt I've picked up buying C&Rs. :)

I've had mine for about four months now and have already used it way too much (especially with the Yugo SKS's). Mine has also paid for itself in discounts at Brownells and Midway.

I've had mine for two years. As far as buying sight unseen, I've gotten about 35 guns with mine and only been mildly disappointed with one. If you buy from companies with good reputations, I think overall you'll be happy with what you get. And if you're not, these same companies are usually the easiest to work with when returning something.

I too have found that the discounts that Brownells and Midway gives for 03 holders to be worth more than the cost of the license. On several purchases I've made from Brownells, my cost has been less than 1/2 the price charged to the general public.

Any gun older than 50 years is automatically a C&R. The C&R list is generally for guns that have been judged as "collectible" but are not old enough to be C&R. Of course, there are now a lot of collectible guns on the list that are also over 50 because they are too lazy to update the list accurately.

I've had my C&R for about 4 months now. I haven't used it to buy a rifle yet, but I've used it to get discounts at Brownells and Midwy. I also want to get a C&R handgun, but in CA you have to get COE (Certificate of Eligibility) if you want handguns delivered to your door.

I did the same as you jayhway. Got discounts at those places too but haven't gotten any guns yet. In time I might but who knows.

If the right one comes up at the right time and price, I'll get it. Just have to wait and see. I don't have any specific make or model in mind, not yet anyway.

Do any of you have a CA COE? How much of a hassle was it to get? I was figuring on just making a trip to the Reno gun show once or twice a year when I'm up that way fishing so I can escape extra paperwork (though I know I still have to register the handgun after I get back home).

I haven't picked one up and probably won't because then my collection will blow up like gunrunnerjohn's setup! :)

Every month, I can see it now, oh, that's just $75, that's just $100. Too easy if stuff just gets delivered to my door.

I figure that I've saved $2000-2500 on FFL fees, so there's a dozen more guns in my pistol collection that I didn't have to pay for.:D

HKmp5sd, I hear ya, the good 'ole days are gone when folks can get an 01FFL using their residence address as the premise address. On the other hand, some states with a less restrictive zoning laws allow 01FFL holders to operate in their residence address.

Good thinking folks, in between the wholesale price/cost per gun and no FFL fees, you can get discounts from companies such as Brownells using your 03 (C&R) FFL.
