And one for when you are in transport like driving a car or on your person?
Perhaps both guns are the same model because you like the model so much.

How many of you just use the same gun for both home & personal protection/conceal carry?

stinger,

when i was just getting into guns, and just generally getting started in adult life, i had a compact Glock (23 to be exact) that i used to ccw, take with me in the truck, and use for the home. later on i added a P226, didn't like it as much as i thought i would, and purchased a full sized Glock to replace it for HD only.

So, at one time i had one gun for all. now i have a dedicated ccw, and a dedicated HD sidearm. and i never leave a gun in a vehicle, unless i have to put it there temporarily to go into a no carry zone.

Seems like a good idea to have a dedicated HD handgun. One for each shooter in the home, actually. The thing with the HD gun is that there are almost no limitations on size or weight. So for me a 686+ 6" is an easy choice for home and range. Too big for CCW, though, where you're trying to balance firepower against size and weight.

Different weapons for different missions.

I've only been carrying for a few weeks, but I usually keep my Kel-Tec PF-9 on me and my M&P 9mm stays in the nightstand for home defense. I might carry the M&P more in the winter, but since I've reduced the trigger pull using the apex sear and FPB, I'm not sure I feel comfortable carrying it.

I have a primary home defense handgun that is different than my off-duty/carry gun. The primary house gun is a Beretta M9A1 with Trijicon night sights, a tactical light, and a 20 round magazine. My wife's S&W 431PD with Crimson Trace grips is generally right next to it, so that is available for use also. I carry a NAA .22 Magnum mini revolver with a XS front night sight and a folding holster grip on my person all the time when I am home and awake, so that is available. My primary carry gun, a DAO SP101, is also available, though I don't carry it around the house. My on and off-duty BUG, a S&W Airweight, is available, though again not carried on my person around the house. I don't keep any loaded long guns in the house and my issued duty weapon stays in my locker at the PD since I don't carry it off-duty.

I too have guns all over the house. My primary HD is a Remington 1100 with the plug removed, the barrel shortened to 20 inches and loaded with slugs. For back up I have a Wilson Protector, a Kimber Tac Pro, both with night sights, a Taurus Pt145 with a 24/7 12 rd mag and a Ruger P90. For IWB carry I use an LCP bug or the Taurus depending on where I'm going and what I'm wearing.

Because of my floorplan layout, I keep two revolvers hidden at opposite ends of the house. I'm always at one end or the other, and the entrance is in the middle. I don't want to be stranded weaponless at the far end if the front door comes bursting off its hinges, so I keep both ready to go.

I have a bedside 4-inch 357 revolver for HD night-time duty, but it is too big for personal defense carry. There are other loaded guns as well, but that one is "up first" if I am in that room. At other times, during which I am home and dressed, or out and about, my KT PF-9 is on my side, so it would likely be my "grab first" piece even at home should I hear the door being kicked in or what-not.. If I have a few moments, I'll run and fetch the revolver and/or my 20ga shotgun, but the floor plan of my house does not allow for rapid movement from one end of it to the other..

I have 4 different guns that I use for carry. Depending on how I'm dressed, the environment I'll be in, the weather, etc... I have a Walther PPK 32acp, an AMT 380 backup, a CZ-82 9mm makarov, and a SigSauer P220 45acp.

For home defense, my main pistol is a S&W Model 13 357 magnum. It's in the night-stand by the bed. If I'm awake, I have one of the 4 that I am carrying with me. (Usually the AMT 380 backup because it fits in my front jeans pocket without a holster). If I am working on one of my cars/trucks or doing other garage/outside work, I keep a Hi-point 9mm in the garage. If I am anticipating trouble; e.g. local riots (I remember the race riots of the 60's back in New Jersey and NYC where I grew up), then my pistol isn't my #1 home defense. My remington 870 pump shot gun or my Saiga .223 rifle is. Oh, and I forgot to mention, that the 4 carry pistols that I use, all are located in different places in the house. So if I'm not carrying one, I am always close enough to one if I need it. This way I don't have to run to the safe.

I keep a govt size 1911 in 45acp for my home defense gun
Girlfriend has my SP101 with 38spec +p for her bedside
Carry gun is a Glock 23
Hiking gun is a GP100
Summer gun/Bicycle gun is a p-11

wish i had a S&W 1006 because i love them

That NAA .22 Mag mini revolver is a nice little quality piece. I have seen what the other .22 LR mini revolver can do and for their size they do some nasty damage with minimal weight and size to carry.

Thus far

All the responses have been a mixed variety but that's a good thing and interesting.:D

The house gun is a 12 gauge mossberg 930 SPX loaded with 9 rounds of 00 buckshot which stays locked up in cabinet unless I'm home, in which case it's unlocked and ready to grab. I don't keep a loaded pistol in the house aside from my carry pieces, which are either on my person or on my nightstand (M&P 40 and S&W 340). I do keep an additional loaded M&P 40 in my truck for those times when I'm driving to a place where for whatever reason I cannot carry on my person.

For the gun you keep in the truck do you use different ammo than you would if in a house? i.e. ammo in truck have more penetration like FMJ to punch through car doors or obstacles that you may more likely encounter in the field vs. at home whereas at home you don't want ammo that is too much penetration.

My 'house gun' is a Glock 22 w/ Streamlight TLR2 in my bedside drawer. When I get my CCW permit, my carry weapon will be a Glock 27 IWB. I also have a J-frame .38 that will pull duty when I need something that will discretely fit in a coat pocket.

I may occasionally carry the G22 (w/o the Streamlight) instead of the G27, but probably not very often.

Which caliber is this Glock model? .40 cal?

G22 is the full size .40, G27 is the subcompact. Both loaded with 180 grain Speer Gold Dot's.

For some reason most police departments have switched to this caliber. Was the .40 cal created for law enforcement use? Sort of like between a 9mm and a .45 ACP.

No, I use the same ammo, Federal HST 180gr, for all my .40 caliber defensive pistols. It is rated to perform adequately through barriers like windshields.

Yes, the .40 was developed for the FBI in the 80's. They wanted more firepower than the old .38 revolvers so they so they considered adopting the 10mm. They discovered that the 10mm was too powerful for many LEO's to control adequately when loaded with the maximum amount of powder. They then realized that they should just decrease the size of the case instead of downloading the 10mm. This would have the added effect of making weapons with high capacity magazines and reasonably sized grips easy to design. Thus the .40 s&w was created. It was deemed to be the best combination of stopping power and controlability by those in charge of such things at the time.

I have four handguns: one snubby revolver in 357 mag. and three autoloaders (a 9mm compact, a 9mm full size, and a .45 ACP full size 1911). I am still trying to figure out their different uses -- I bought my first gun only about half a year ago. I carry something whenever legal -- most commonly my snubby in a pocket holster but sometimes my compact 9mm (Walther P99C) in an IWB holster. I haven't as yet persuaded myself that a truck gun is a good idea. In the event of an intruder in the house, I would be reasonably comfortable with any of the four guns. Probably I would be most comfortable with the snubby because it is the only one with a laser and that could be an advantage when my hands are shaking!

Carry gun (most of the time) is a Kel-Tec P-11.

Carry gun rest of the time and full time night stand gun is a Colt Commander .45.

Wifes side night stand gun is a S&W 36 with Winchester LSWCHP +P.

Vehicle gun is a S&W 66 2 1/2" barrel.

The 66, Commander and P-11 sometimes switch roles depending on what I'm doing and where I'm going during the day.
