How many of you out there with Conceal Carry Weapon Permits have one gun for home

my $.02 (worth what you paid for them)

A carry gun needs to be light, small and comfortable, or else you will not enjoy carrying it and will often opt to leave home without it. You will have to trade something to get the weight and size down. For many this means a smaller cartridge (hence the popularity of 9mm) a shorter barrel (~3.5") and a poly frame. So you exchange power and accuracy for portability.

You don't really have to make any of these trade offs for a HD handgun, hence IMO that's plenty good enough reason for having two different pieces for carry and HD.

There was a time that I kept a dedicated home defense pistol. I gave that up because it didn’t make sense for me. Now I keep my carry piece (typically a glock 19 or a kimber pro cdp II) on me or beside me, and an ar in the closet. The rest stay locked in the safe.

My reasoning was simple, why do I need a home defense pistol? If I am required to “go get a gun” that isn’t in a holster on my hip or beside me as I sleep, why “go get” a pistol? If I need to “go get” something, it will be a rifle or a shotgun. I prefer my ar, so I keep it ready to go.

Like it was said on the first page--what is this two gun thing? My hunting side arm is different than my daily carry, the HD shooters are 45s and staged, and to back them up are '06s (lol, no need to play with inferior rds).

well...

I dunno....in theory it makes more sense to have one platform and shoot the snot out of it for everything. I carry a GLOCK 23 but my nightstand gun is often enough my G21...inside I think subsonic heavy 230gr rounds are the stuff....outside to....but my 23 carrys better. They have the same trigger sights ect....both 13+1 capacity and both in a major caliber that starts with a "4"

On the other hand they both point and feel a little different...it might make more sense to have a G30 instead of a 23...but I love the 19/23 size and am not a big fan of the 36. And again those would still feel and shoot differently. Probably having a spare G23 would make more sense...but I LOVE my 21SF so I guess that'll just have to be close enough to a perfect pair...and I do carry the 21 sometimes...but not often lately. I was going back and forth between the 21 and a SA XD9 4" 9mm and that was a LOT different trigger sights ect...so I've gotten closer to logical anyway...I love and trust both guns...I've owned the old genII mod 21 and gen II and II model 23 and 19's as well as several 22 and a 17 Other than my favorite (a well built 1911) there is probably nothing I like and trust more in an auto...the XD's are good guns to...the wife shoots them in 9 and has a PF9. again with a vastly different trigger....I'm thinking about getting her an XD compact...but she say's it's not enough smaller to be worth it for now....so we might hold out for a PM9 for her to upgrade from the PF9...that would be closer to her XD's trigger than the PF9 anyway and more shootable and of higher quallity.

It's certainly a subject to think about. Most of us have limited time and funds for plinking and real training. Trying to stick to a singular platform or at least keeping things as similar and transferable as possible certainly makes sense...but then we like guns to...and I do want them all! So there's human nature at work...as usual....completely opposing pure cold logic! ;)

been using a xdsc40 for over a year and i don't notice any extra weight but then again I'm 6.6 258 so i have room for it:cool:

I've recently added a car pistol, secured in a safe in the trunk, just because you never know. I never get into the car without my daily carry piece, however, which also makes its way to and from the house each day. And yes, a few strategically placed pistols are stashed around the house as well. What's that old Boy Scout motto again?

Do you use the same ammo / load you use in your home as when you are in your car?

I have a Charter BullDog 44Spec in the console next to the drivers seat. It took a while to prove its reliability, but after a replacement and a trip to charter and 400 rounds with out missing a beat. While in the car its too hard for an old guy like me to reach into my pocket for my Smith or in the back of my hip for my Kimber ultra. Two guns are better that one, and three are better than two.

Have gun will travel???? I have (a lol) house guns and car guns and horse guns. Would carry any of them if and when needed in any situation. Mostly it is what I am wearing and what I am doing. Usually in the woods and carry a woods gun? Usually just using the 9 for going here and there and when I can't figure what else to take?
