How many rounds do you fire per year...for practice?

Proficiency is about a lot more than accuracy.

Once again...agreed.

Having said this, accuracy does go a long way. After all, if you cant hit it, you cant stop it (speaking of HD/CC anyway). ;)

I look at it this way: achieving a certain level of accuracy instills confidence. And, IMHO, since quite a bit of shooting proficiency is tied to the "mental" aspect, confidence can do great things.

Regardless, I usually try to implement other related "drills" into my shooting sessions vs simply focusing on accurate shooting.

Of course, dry firing drills/mag drills go a long way as well.

But, this is all a bit off topic.

Either way, I applaud many of the numbers here...for whatever the reason.

I used to shoot every weekend, 50 rounds out of my XD-40. Since I've recently bought an ATV for trail riding out here in Colorado, I'm down to shooting twice a month, 50 rounds/session. So I'm around 1200 rounds/year now. ATV trail riding is so damn much fun, its a PIA to find time for both ATV'ing and shooting, lol.:)

I bounce all over the map. I have had years, when I was shooting cowboy action, that I shot close to 30,000. We would practice at least once and usually twice a week and I would go through 500-600 each time. Then we would shoot matches most every weekend, sometimes twice in a weekend. We generally shoot 150 rounds per weekend. For a while that included my daughter to so that would add more rounds. So, that means that some weeks we would shoot over 1500 rounds. Right now i am just getting into Idpa and If the last few weeks are any indication, I am on track to shoot close to 10,000 this year. Good thing we have hard winters.:D

Around 3,000 to 3,500 per year, with the majority split fairly evenly between .45 ACP and .38 special/.357 mag, with the remainder (~200 rounds) spread across various rifle calibers.

You'd think that shooting that much, that often, I'd be a better shot!

Edit - forgot about .22 - maybe 1,000 rounds of that?

6,000 to 12,000 per year--all reloads. Recently, mostly 38 Special / .357 'lite' for carry guns. I did take a nominal one-year break after doing a 'big' 38/357 short-barrel reloading project.

I have about 18K of reloads on hand that I need to get the brass from...mostly 10mm, .45ACP.

My stats are as follows:

1995 12,005
1996 15,035
1997 12,070
1998 2,432
1999 8,744
2000 6,674
2001 14,952
2002 14,711
2003 19,667
2004 16,746
2005 16,537
2006 11,577
2007 12,720
2008 20,731
2009 13,073
2010 9,034

1998 I worked almost the whole year straight so I did not get much shooting time in and 2000 I moved so I lost a lot of time getting ready for the move (1999) andd during the move (2000). Mostly my shooting is just a measure of how hard I am working at work.

Looking at the stats, less then 20% are FMJ's and 30% or JHP's. The rest are lead.

Because of my schedule and money limitations, I only get to go shooting about 2-3 times a year, but when I go I shoot quite a bit.

300-400 Rounds of .45ACP
300-400 Rounds of 9mm
300-400 Rounds of .40S&W
200 Rounds of 12 ga.
100 Rounds of 20 ga.
40-60 Rounds of .30-30

Most of the handgun ammo is FMJ with the exception of maybe 50 or so rounds being JHP. The shotgun ammo is usually bird shot and the .30-30 is JSP. Times that ammo by 3 and that's a rough estimate of what I shoot every year.

Difficult to say. I reckon about 3 000 .45 acp, rifles about 1 500, other odds and ends maybe 1 000. Black powder revolvers and rifle about 700. Call it a rough total of some
6 500 but this is largely guesswork. Never tried to add it up before!

In an average year-

2400rds 45acp
2400rds 40sw
1200rds 9mm
1200rds 380acp
maybe a few hundred of 38special when i get bored

10,000 to 15,000 rounds a year, with preferred, most used handguns (not counting "other")

mostly with practice companion clones, all "same" gun and grips
6" k-frames, ~80% 22LR rimfire, ~10% 22WMR, ~10% 38/357
(cannot afford that much centerfire ammo)
throw enough rounds downrange, doesn't matter which one is in your hand at any given moment, they all hit the same, recoil becomes a non-factor
(next best thing to retirement & reloading)

I shoot every morning its not raining from the back porch. I have cut way way way back since I no longer compete, but it is still an average of about 25-30 rounds per day. Probably 70% is .45ACP and the rest is .45LC, .357, .327FED, and .22LR. And yes, I do reload,...ALOT.

Minimum of 500 rounds a month (6K yearly) in my .38 super. That's just for matches, I don't really keep track of practice ammo in that gun but it's around another 4K.

Around 2-3k for .45
6-10K for .38 special, it varies on how much the wife shoots.
500-2000 for .357 again it varies on how much the wife shoots, she loves full house .357's
1K .380's
500-1000 9MM
100-200 .44 magnum
100-200 .44 special
200 .223
other odd and end stuff to I just don't really keep track of.

I go through probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 2k to 3k rounds a year. I haven't made it out to the range as often as I'd like since I started having children a few years ago.

I'm a reloader, and most of that being shot is going to be .44 mag, .38 special, and .45 Colt -- probably in that order.

Bullets will be almost exclusively LSWC and RNFP's, with maybe a handful of JHP's in .44 mag. I also shoot a bit of .303 British and 7.62 Russian, but I don't reload for those currently.
