How much ammo do you guys keep on hand?

This just reminds me that I miss the old days of buying 1000 round lots when I had a good job, and ammo was reasonable.

Enough for emergencys, a few hundred per unit. Always restock after a range session. If something really horrific happened, you could never have enough. As who knows what enough is.

Apparently humor is not welcome in this thread.

Im always welcome to private, friendly, conversations though if a moderator has issues with my post. "lost all my ammo in a boating accident"
Seems more silly posts are floating around most the time than that. lol But w/e guess you need something to do.

Anyways. I keep around enough for my main shooters that I can go shooters whenever I want and not have to worry about local prices or stock.

When you get down to the bottom line it's about having enough ammo that you can use the gun if you had to.

Some like my lever actions have very little in reserve because I don't shoot them often. Others like my hunting rifles have enough in reserve that I could grab the gun and go on a hunt.

But I reserve the right to produce any ammo I need without going out and buying components in present day.

Like others here, I stock up on ammo for some of my firearms but not all of them.

7.62 x 39 - 1500
5.56 x 45 - 1500
.45acp - 1000
.38 spl - 750
12ga. - 250
.22lr. - 8000
.17HMR - 500
7mm08 - 30
30-30win. - 28
45-70 - 4 I'll buy another box pay day ;)
20ga. - 12

Lots of cheap practice ammo. Not enough match grade, hunting or self-defense ammo.

Unless I win the lottery, I doubt that ratio will ever change.

Eventually the world will come to an end but no amount of ammo will stop it. The chances of severe civil unrest are extremely high IMO. Just take a look at the news with gangs beating up people over racial issues and certain leaders calling for violence every day. If you don't think it's possible you don't know your history.

I don't keep 3000 rounds of 7.62 x 39 under my bed. I keep 5000 rounds of 7.62 x 39 in various places. Grand total I probably have well over 10,000 rounds of different calibers from .22lr to 30.06 including 12 ga., .40, .44 mag., .45, and .223. And I only buy what I think I'll actually need.
+1 to that!
9mm, 45ACP, 5.56x45mm, .308 Win., about 10k-15k each caliber.
.30-06, .338 Win Mag. & .375 H&H, about 3,000 rnds. each of various hunting cartridges.
.500 S&W Mag, about 1,000. & 200 "specialty" rnds.
12 gauge 10,000 practice shot, and 500 specialty slugs.

Just the rifles?
750 .308 handloads for my BLR for deer. I expect the grandkids to be shooting from that supply.
300+ handloads for the Mini-30
A couple boxes each for the obsolete and oddballs.
500 or so for everything else but my .223 varmint rifles and my rimfires. For them? LOTS.
Almost nothing for my "new" Browning 1885 in .270, yet.
dies, powder and brass to load much much more when the time allows.

OMG! You people really do believe in a coming zombie apocalypse! :what:

Just for a giggle I'll tell you what I have:

.22 LR - 100 rounds CCI Mini Mag
.22 LR - 50 rounds CCI Stinger
.25 ACP - 50 rounds S&B FMJ
.32 ACP - 50 rounds Unk FMJ
.38 Special - 100 rounds Federal SWC
.357 Magnum - 50 rounds Winchester Silvertip
7.62x38R - 100 rounds S&B
7.62x39 - 20 rounds
.303 British - 20 rounds Rem Soft Pt.
12 ga. - 10 rounds Rem 00 Buck

I'm not gonna last long, am I? :uhoh:

Not enough, I say!

~500 .223 split between XM193 and 62 gr. JHP
~150 .22lr
~100 12ga bird shot
~100 12ga buck shot
~150 .40 s&w

Just got the .40, so I plan on getting a lot more of that soon! Really, I think I could do with a lot more of all I've got!

How much ammo do you keep on hand??

How much ammo do you guys keep on hand, for what calibers and what kind of ammo?

I'm going to keep-
-500 rds. of FMJ and 100 rds. of soft point or ballistic tip 223/5.56 ammo for my AR15.
-500 rds. of FMJ and 100 rds. of soft point ammo for my 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP combined.
-250 rds. of buckshot and 100 rds. of slugs for my 12 ga.
-200 rds. of soft point ammo for my 30-06.
-Maybe 500 rds. of 22LR.
-Maybe some 280 Rem., 30-30 Win. and 35 Rem. ammo too.

What about you guys?

Thanks, NYH1.
For my 12 gauge shotgun I tend to keep a minimun of 250. If it gets below 250, I get paranoid and go to Academy and buy more. For my Glock 21 and Remington 1911 R1 (both 45ACP) I shoot those alot, so no less than 500 rounds. Like I said before, if it gets below that, I go out and buy more. As for my AR, I like to have about 200 or 300 rounds. I dont shoot it as much as my 12 gauge and pistols, therefore I am confortable letting it get down to about 200 rounds. But overall I like to have 200 or more rounds for each gun in my house.

i dont keep a lot of ammo on hand at any one time. i shoot a .40 in some casual competitions each month so i keep about 400 loaded up for that. when i first started reloading a few years ago i was having so much fun i just couldnt stop and loaded about 750 rounds for my 30-30; i havent loaded another round for it yet.

i would rather keep a stockpile of components and just refill the ammo stash as needed.

1 Box .223
1 Box .303
1 Box .308
1 Box .7.62x39
1 Box .7.62x54r
1 Box 12ga
1 Box 22cal
1 Box that I dont own guns for
Each box contains no less then 1000 rnds
100 lb of lead 10k primers 10 to 15 lb powder
and a few 5gal bucketts of brass
All but the 22 are reloads done on a turret press and a 60 year old C&H shellmaster

for me..

if it's a firearm that shoots an ammo that is readily available and inexpensive than 500 rounds. If it's hard to come by than I stock as much as possible.

but for now I've been lacking the restocking.

500+ 223 55gr fmj
2000+ 22lr
500+ 9mm 115gr fmj
100+ rounds of 12g mixed 7oz and 00

I don't reload but always keep my brass for buddies that do.

Seems like you guys stock a lot... that's probably smart.

For any kind of practical duty, I stock a minimum of four times what I could actively carry. For example, 6 mags of 15 for 9mm total 360 rounds (round up to 400 or whatever) and that would be defense grade stuff. I'll do this for any round that I would actually duty carry, i.e. 9mm, .45acp, 5.56, etc. It's also necessary to stock an appropriate amount of mags. Like 1.5 to 2 times what I would actually carry.

I'll also stock several thousand rounds of .22lr because it's easy to carry thousands of rounds of that stuff. It would be my round of choice for the worst case scenario/survival/whatever you can imagine. But I still like having some heavy firepower around for who knows what.

I'll also stock some amount of range ammo but I don't really care about maintaining some minimum reserve of practice stuff. It's pretty easy to get in bulk so whatever.
