How much ammo do you usually carry with your CCW?

11 rounds of .40S&W in the gun, 11 more in a spare mag. i figure if i can't do the job with that many rounds, i bit off more than i could chew.

Unfortunately, I live in a "restrictive may issue" county in California. The next county north is a "de facto shall issue" county. We need CCW reform here (and a north-south split of the state!).

So I can't comment.

However, I'd say that this would be excessive, even in the great Southwest:

For any of my 3" K-frames, it is 6 in the gun and 2 Comp IIs for spares, plus a speedstrip of snakeshot. If I anticipate a trek to rough turf, then a 2" M-10 rides along for a second ready six.

If I am going 1911, then 8+1 in the Commander with 2 spare 8-rd mags on tap.

Normally I carry what is in the weapon with a back up magazine in my vehicle or backpack. The only exception is when I carry my Springfield Compact .45 in which case I will carry a spare 6 round mag on me.

One reload for whatever I am carrying, since I'm not running details down Route Irish...

At least full capacity of the gun plus one spare mag. I started carrying the spare mag after a defensive shooting last year in which a pizza delivery driver emptied his entire mag at an armed robber in order to stop the threat. With the BG down, if he hadn't had a spare mag he'd have been alone in the ghetto with an empty gun and a lot of angry gang bangers mad that their buddy went down.

During the winter, Beretta 92fs in a shoulder holster. 16 in the gun, 30 on the off-side.

Oh that's easy. In that southwest picture above, I'm the guy on the left. :p

Right now, it depends on what I'm wearing, since I haven't invested in mag pouches. Standard capacity Makarov, so the mag in the gun plus one or two mags. With Kahr K9 or the Browning Hi-Power, probably just one.

it depends on how long i'll be out of the house for. if i'm just running down to the corner, i'll usually just pack my S&W 37, sometimes with an extra speedloader in the pocket. if i'll be gone for longer, or if i'm going to a nasty part of town, i'll carry a double speedloader pouch on my belt for my .38 or .357.

if i carry an automatic, i always bring at least one extra mag (usually two). in the rare case of a stoppage, i can be back to shooting quicker if i just drop the mag and clear the chamber.

I'm a little surprised at how many of you only carry the one mag in the gun!

As was earlier mentioned, some failures can only be cleared by dropping the mag (doublefeed) and if you're in a gunfight...you just might be stressed out enough to drop it and maybe lose it!

I carry either a 1911 or G30 and always have at least one (and usually 2) spare mags on me.

Out and about most of the time - five rounds only - usually a 642 in a pocket holster. I do my best to avoid problem situations and stay alert. Outside at night - keep my hand on the revolver grip in my pocket.

Sometimes, I'll carry a holstered 640/60/442 and a 642 in the front pocket. I guess some folks here would call this a New York reload.

Mag in the gun 10+1 and a spare 10 on me = 21 rnds.

Plus 2 spare 10 round mags in the driver side door pocket gives me a total of 41 rounds.

They are Speer GoldDot 9mm 124 gr.

If it is on my body it depends on which firearm, method of carry, method of concealment cover, and the place I may be going to be at. If it is in a vehicle there may be more. Usually on my peson it is a Glock of some sort with at leat 3 magazines, a can of pepper, Leatherman Multi Tool, and fighting knife of some sort.

Usually just the 1 mag in the gun - 10 +1 = 11

In a typical scenario where I was robbed, that should be sufficient. I know I should carry an extra mag, but I only usually do that if I am wearing a shoulder holster usually

Same here. 10+1 in both my PT-111 and my P-32

Walther P99c - 10 + 1 rounds of 9mm in the gun, 1 spare mag in belt pouch.

That makes 21 total rounds. If I can't take a threat down with that, I'll be heading home for my rifle...

On hot weather days (lot of 'em in Texas) I pocket carry a S&W 637 snubbie with a spare speedloader. 5rds of .38spl Corbons in the gun, another 5 rds on my hip. 10 rounds isn't too shabby though I definitely prefer my Walther or CZ75B.

Generally, I just carry 12+1 .40SW, but I think I'll start carrying a spare mag in my jacket. I'm not sure what I should do in the summer, since I haven't found a comfortable mag pouch yet. Are the leather pouches more comfortable than the kydex pouches? I bought a kydex double mag pouch a few months ago, and hardly ever use it because it's actively painful to wear.

15+1 in the gun, and 25 in two spare magzines. But, I pretty much only wear the gun while hunting, so I have to prepare for the possibility of defending myself against numerous small fuzzy bandits :uhoh:.

It's always been my habit to carry two reloads for any handgun I'm carrying. Two speed loaders for a revolver, two magazines for a pistol.
